"KELLY!" Roy yelled stalking through the hallway and into the bedroom they shared.
Grunting in pure disgust, she sighed and pulled a pillow over her head. "What Roy?"
With his six foot-one frame towering over her in the bed, he dropped her cell phone on her stomach letting that be his reason for bothering her.
"You got something you wanna tell me?"
Tossing the pillow aside, Kelly shifted her weight to her elbows. "Huh?" Bewildered, she searched her mind quickly trying to figure out what he was talking about since he wasn't being too clear about the subject.
Surprisingly, calm and collected; he sat at the foot of the bed with his back towards her. "Why don't you check your voicemail." his voice soothed in a condescending manner.
No more than 5 minutes ago was he walking around minding his own business before he came across a redundant ringing device; belonging to no one other than Kelly. She had grown accustomed to Roy not being around for the past few months and continued leaving her things around as she would if he wasn't there.
With no intentions of invading her privacy he proceeded to take her the phone until he noticed 5 missed calls from a 'Greg'.
Kelly's stupidity once again. She could've at least gave him a code name if she was going to be careless about the affair.
Following his instincts, of course he was a little suspicious when the phone informed the carrier that they had a new message. Of course he listened to it, letting his guilt get the best of him, he was never one to snoop around through her things- but she did have him on the suspicious side lately.
He was hoping this would put his worries to an end- thinking that he was just a friend, but instead it threw him for a loop. Recognizing the voice in seconds and matching a name at that- Roy was furious with anger.
Surprisingly, unlike most people, when he was upset, he displayed more of a calm persona than a crazed one, and spoke with a tone colder than ice. It was more devastating than lashing out on someone so to speak.
"What were you doing going through my phone?" Kelly asked still shocked.
How the fuck was she suppose to get out of this one?
Roy cracked his knuckles which caused Kelly to tense up.
"Does it really fuckin matter?" he retorted coldly. By this time Kelly was shaking in fear. Roy rarely cussed and she knew when he did, that he was beyond pissed.
"So how long?"
"How long, what?" She sniffled and wiped her nose; trying to remember when she had started to cry. This shit was just happening too fast and she felt like a fool not being able to fess up to what she had done quicker.
"My fuckin BOSS, Kelly?" he screamed out like a loose cannon and punched the wall; making her jump.
Tempted to beat the shit out of her, he got in her face and clenched his fists.
"When were you planning on telling me?"
"Roy, Please calm down. It's not what you think, really."
Before Roy could get another word out the house phone started ringing but they ignored it.
"Oh really, well explain this shit to me then Kelly."
While Kelly tried to form a good enough explanation as to why she had resulted in rekindling old flames, the continuous ringing of the phone was clearly racking Roy's nerves.
He scooped it up with the quicknes.
"HELLO!"
Kelly took a deep breath realizing that this would definitely give her more time, but frowned when she heard who was on the other line.
"Look Michelle, call her back, we're in the middle of something right now." He hung up disregarding the distraught tone in her voice. Before he could even put the phone back down, it started ringing again.
Proceeding to repeat himself, his words got caught up when she started yelling at him this time. "GIVE KELLY THE GOTDAMN PHONE!!"
Kelly heard her clearly and her jaw dropped.
With furrowed brows, Kelly had a gut feeling something was wrong otherwise, Michelle definitely wouldn't be yelling at Roy like she had lost her mind. She snatched the phone out of his hand; throwing their argument on a simple hiatus.
"What's wrong Chelle?"
Still a bit disturbed by Michelle's voice Roy stood to the side looking at Kelly's expression transform from timid to horrified.
"Oh my god! What hospital is she at?"
Hearing everything, it didn't even phase Roy that something terrible had happened to one of her friends.
"I'm on my way!" Kelly dropped the phone without hanging it up and ran around the bed to where her shoes were.
"So you just gonna leave in the middle of this?" Roy watched her slip her jacket on over her nightgown and frowned.
She turned around with tears in her eyes. It hadn't even clicked in her mind that her marriage was headed towards the dumps no less than 5 minutes ago.
"Not now Roy." Kelly huffed full of anxiety. "I just found out my friend is in intensive care. Please!! Can we talk about this later!!!" She threw her hands up to her forehead and looked around feverishly for her purse.
"Can we talk about this later?? ARE YOU SERIOUS!!?"
"Very! I love you Roy, I really do- but this is a matter of life and death right now. Why cant you just understand that?" She grabbed her purse and headed towards the door as he followed.
It was obvious to him that she didn't care too much about her marriage to stick around and work things out. But on the other hand, her friend could possibly be laying on her death bed. No matter how much of a misunderstanding Kelly and B may have had in the past- they were still sisters at heart, she couldn't just sit around and let someone call her later with news of her being okay or not.
"Don't bother coming back!" Roy muttered.
Kelly stopped dead in her tracks and turned around; shaking her head. "Don't do this Roy! Not now. Please." she retorted in an irritated manner. Too much all at once, she felt like screaming. She knew she was in the wrong and clearly planned on discussing it with him later but, damn, have a heart.
As she walked out the front door she heard him mumble something else but could barely make it out. Whatever it was- was going to have to wait.
Narrowing down a 30 minute drive to more like 15, Kelly pulled into the parking lot of Harford Memorial Hospital With all sorts of horrible images racing through her mind right.
Once she neared the automatic doors in the front of the hospital, instead of walking fast, she slowed down to a snail's pace letting the fear sink in. She hated hospitals with a passion and couldn't help but think back on all of the other times she had visited someone in the hospital. They were few and far apart but each time, unfortunately they all lost their battles and that was the last time she'd ever see any of them alive.
