Kelly slammed down the phone on her desk forcefully and massaged her temples. She had just spent the past thirty minutes arguing with a judge throughout one of her many conferences. Overwhelmed with work all morning, 12 o'clock had finally rolled around and a break was the only thing on her mind. After forwarding the rest of her calls to her voicemail, she opened the bottom draw of her desk; retrieving her chocolate colored Dooney & BurkeT bag. She fished for her cell and pressed number 3 to reach the contact under speed dial.
"Hello?" Beyoncé popped her gum before answering.
"Whatchu doin?" Kelly leaned back in her swivel chair and crossed her legs; admiring her new shoes.
Beyoncé worked less than 10 minutes away, it was likely for the two of them to hook up around lunch time and get a bite to eat together.
"nothing, shopping."
"Aren't you suppose to be at work?"
"I am at work. I'm sitting right here in this dull ass cubical." B replied in a low tone. While at work, personal calls were prohibited, but many of the employees never took that rule serious. It's not like she had anything important to do at the moment. For the past hour she had been roaming some of her favorite clothing store's sites.
Kelly shook her head. "Well you wanna go to lunch or something?" Kelly glanced at her watch. "I've really got to get out of here before I break someone's neck."
Beyoncé chuckled. "Sorry, can't. Believe it or not, I just got here. No breaks for me today."
It was damn near noon and this child was just getting to work. "You are a mess, B. Do some damn work and stop shopping all the damn time!"
Beyoncé laughed, paying her no attention at all. Kelly would have to find someone else to accompany her.
"Well I'll talk to you later then girl."
"Alright!"
They ended the call and Kelly stood up, proceeding to get out of there anyway.
Being as though she had nothing else left to do, she called it a day and let her boss know she was out for the rest of the day. Luckily she was a nice older woman, pushing her mid-fifties and had a heart of gold.
Roy had been back in town for a while now and because of his crazy schedule, Kelly rarely saw him. She thought about picking up something to eat and going to make a pop up visit, but scratched that whole eating idea; hopped in her truck and drove straight to his office building which was about a half hour away.
'he better not be busy, I know that much!' Kelly thought to herself after she entered his building and passed security with ease.
Pressing 12, she was on her merry way up and made a point to primp in the glass stained walls of the spacious elevator. After applying another coat of her nude colored MACT lip glass, she had finally arrived at Roy's floor.
She stepped off of the elevator and the first person she noticed was the happy go lucky secretary, sitting behind the oversized wood grained desk to the right of her. She'd never seen her before, so she had to be new.
"Hello, what can I do for you?" the woman asked.
"Hi, I'm here to see Roy.Roy Williams." Kelly replied wondering why she just didn't go to his office. She knew where it was already.
"Oh, he's in a meeting right now, you can wait right over there if you'd like and I'll let him know he has a visitor."
Kelly nodded and looked towards the few chairs they had around and proceeded to sit down until she heard a group of men chuckling and coming down the hall, Roy was smack in the middle.
"Kelly!" he said her name, a little shocked by her presence. "What are you doing here baby?" he approached her with a soft peck on the lips and she smiled.
"I just wanted to stop by and see you. I left work early."
He smiled. "You couldn't wait until I got home?"
"Nope." she grinned and laced her fingers with his as they walked into his office. She dropped her purse on the tiny sofa to the left while he sat down at his desk.
Before he could even get comfortable she straddled his lap and started kissing him. She had made sure to lock the door behind her, so of course there would be no interruptions, or so she thought.
"Damn girl." Roy chuckled and separated his lips from hers. "You've really missed me huh?"
She nodded innocently and wrapped her arms around his neck while biting her bottom lip. "You have no idea!"
The little issue she had with him many, many nights ago had been a first and she was desperate to find out if it would continue. The whole story behind the toys she had bought were never fully explained either. She had bought them for the both of them to use together, with Roy being the prick he was on a regular basis, she didn't know how he would react to that. Thinking of another way they could add the spice back into their love life, she had finally came up with something.
"You know babe, I've been thinking." she started. "Why don't we go on a little vacation or something? Away from work, people.." she bent down and grazed his earlobe with her lips before kissing his neck. "Just you.and me." The last time they had been on any type of vacation was three years ago, on their honeymoon. This time alone in a relaxed state was very necessary. "What do you say?"
A little taken back by her sudden suggestion, Roy nodded. "That's a good idea Kells, but.. I don't know." He replied honestly, putting his job before everything else yet again. Of course she was upset. The smile on her face quickly faded and she sat up; hunched over in disappointment. She was just about to question his bizarre response when they heard a light knock at the door.
Kelly stood up quickly before Roy knocked her over in the process of getting to the door in such a hurry. Usually a knock was just a warning before people entered; he had no idea she had locked the door. 'There's always something else.' she mumbled and adjusted her skirt; cursing whoever had interrupted her moment.
"I'm sorry about that man." Roy's co-worker apologized and Kelly stood erect at the familiarity in his voice. Despite the few times Kelly had shown her face in this building she still had yet to be thoroughly acquainted with the people Roy worked with. Silently praying to herself- she hoped to God it wasn't who she thought it was; totally ignoring the few words they exchanged.
"No problem Greg." Roy chuckled and Kelly nearly passed out by the sound of his name. It had to be him.
Noticing the shortened stares he kept shooting towards Kelly, Roy shook his head. "My bad, I don't think I ever introduced you to my wife. Kells come'ere!" he reached out for her and she contemplated picking up the scissors on his desk and stabbing herself just to avoid this encounter. Instead she bared a fictitious smile and walked towards the two men. "Kelly, this is my supervisor, he just transferred." Roy stated; unaware the fact that she had already had the pleasure of getting to know him.
Gregory Wilks was the last person Kelly thought she'd run into anytime soon. As most people would describe it, they'd had a past together, so to say. Going more in dept with the situation, she had even planned on being his wife someday, before the heartache and pain came into play, as well as before Roy ever came into her life.
"Kelly..hmm. It's nice to meet you!" Greg announced with a sly grin plastered on his face. Deciding to play along with his act, she just nodded and smiled before shaking his hand. She moved away and sat down; feeling his eyes on her the entire time.
"What's wrong with you?" Roy asked Kelly; jilting her from her thoughts. She looked up and Greg was gone.
"Nothing." she shrugged and smiled.
"Well I'll be right back. You mind staying in here and taking these papers from him when he comes back?"
"uh yea." She agreed. What else was she suppose to say?
"Aight. I'll be back in a minute." Roy assured her and she tensed up; trying to prevent every muscle in her body not to run out to her car. Before she could even muster up the courage to face him when he returned, Greg appeared at the doorway of Roy's office with a folder in his hand.
"I'll take that for him." Kelly jumped up and he handed her the folder; completely aware that he was making her nervous. To be honest, he was amazed he still had that affect on her.
Looking over his shoulder and shoving his hands in his pockets; he licked his lips and smiled at her. "How you been Kelly?"
"Fine Greg!" she replied coldly and crossed her arms while eyeing the doorway. Where the hell was Roy!?
"I can see that!" he mumbled and she glared at him. The fuck was he trying to do? He had already written himself out of her life many, many years ago. She couldn't understand for the life of her why he was standing there trying to spark up a casual conversation.
Of all the people in the world, her ex-fiancé and her husband would end up working together. Just her luck.
Roy walked back into his office briskly putting and end to that.
"The folder's right there man, I'll get back to you about it later." Greg stated nonchalantly before exiting.
"You aight?" Roy asked Kelly after noticing the distraught and angry look on her face.
"Yeah, I just got a headache." she retorted while picking up her purse. "I'm going to get going." she clutched his shoulder and kissed his cheek.
She had to get out of there before something was said that she was definitely not going to be able to explain.
"Aight babe. Don't wait up!" he said as she let herself out. A little shocked by her sudden mood swing, he just thought it was her 'friend' coming or something. She did tend to switch on and off like that around her time of the month.
Kelly on the other hand, stalked towards the elevator- cautiously and boarded. By the time she got to the lobby, she had her cell in her hand and dialing numbers already!
Beyoncé first, then Michelle on three way!
"Guess who the fuck I just ran into!" she huffed and went on to tell them.
