Occupying a booth towards the back of the club, Kelly and an associate of hers sat across from one another. Danella; consistently shouting over the loud music through her silver Sanyo, while Kelly sipped on her drink and rolled her eyes.
Danella was one of the few co-workers Kelly associated with and even that was a mistake in her eyes. Kelly was so content with her tiny circle of friends, letting others in was a huge task for her. Danella had practically begged Kelly to come hang out with her tonight, and hesitantly she agreed. Roy was out of town, yet again on business, and Beyoncé and Michelle were both pre-occupied with their men. It wasn't long before Kelly had learned that Danella's boyfriend was on his way as well as a friend of his. She was furious.
Danella hung up her phone and gave Kelly a reassuring look before stuffing her cell into the tiny clutch she carried. "Come on. Don't look at me like that Kelly. I didn't know he was coming out here too."
"humph." Barely paying attention to her, she picked up her glass and took another sip of the liquid. Licking the excess Apple Martini contents off of her top lip, she sat back and contemplated on who she should call to come get her. She couldn't help but grill herself for agreeing to ride with Danella in the first place.
Danella knew Kelly was married, but yet, she still went along with the idea of inviting her boyfriend and his friend along. 'How the fuck would that look?' Kelly thought. Roy would kill her if he found out.
"I'll be right back." Kelly announced and walked over to a quiet lobby nearby. She pulled out her cell and dialing the contact under speed dial # 2 first. After about the 5th ring the answering machine picked up.
"Hey, It's B. I'm obviously busy at the moment so leave a message and I'll think about calling you back."
Kelly sighed and ended the call before dialing the next number on speed dial; unfortunately she got the same response.
"You've reached Michelle. I'm unable to answer your call right now, so leave your name and number and I'll be sure to get back to you."
On the verge of screaming to the top of her lungs, Kelly nearly threw her cell phone into the mirrored wall across from her. So much for one of her bestest to come rescue her at a time like this. She was stuck and a taxi was the last thing on her mind. She didn't have enough cash on her to make it all the way home.
She stood up from the tiny sofa and walked back over to the table.
"Where'd you go?" was the first thing that came out of Danella's mouth when she returned.
"to check my messages." Kelly lied with every intention to look out for her feelings. Even though every muscle in her body wanted to, she didn't want to come off as a and say she was really trying to find a ride home. That would just be too rude, right?
"Mike and his friend should be here in a minute, he said they were on their way."
"ooh Yay!" Kelly stated sarcastically. It wasn't even the fact that Danella seemed to have hooked her up on a blind date, low key. She honestly didn't even want to be here period.
"Come on. It'll be fun. And from what you've told me about your little problem with your man, sounds like you need to be out there in the field. It's not right how he's doing you girl." Danella replied condescendingly and Kelly frowned.
"Roy isn't just my man Danella, he's my husband. This little blind date shit you got going on doesn't fly in that ball park. I'm not like that!"
Shaken by the sudden attitude Kelly had displayed, Danella could barely form her next sentence.
