Sunday

It was an ordinary day when something happened that changed my life.

I didn't understand why most things happen, but it's done now.

"Honey, are you okay?" My mom said as she rested a skinny hand on my shoulder. I was currently spacing out on my bed and I had no clue she was even in here. Or that she entered. I need to start paying attention to my surroundings.

"Uhh...yeah. I think so." I shook my head to get rid of the thoughts that consumed my brain. I couldn't tell about what exactly I was thinking because everything just came and passed like a blur.

She sighed, "I know it's hard right now, but don't worry about it so much."

"You'll be gone for four months. Four whole months, mom." I looked up at her, she had sadness in her eyes but I didn't care, she was being selfish and leaving me while she goes to 'relieve her pain'. How am I supposed to do that? Does she know I'm part of this situation too?

"You could always stay at your fathers house." She suggested but there was no way in hell I was going to go there willingly.

"No thanks." I said almost immediately.

"Listen, the Henderson's are amazing people. She's my best friend from high school, she'll look after you like it's me." She smiled slightly.

Why can't it be you who's the one to look after me? I wanted to say but instead I said, "Whatever." And walked out of my room and into the bathroom across the hall.

After waking myself up again since I took a nap, and taking a quick shower, I hopped back to my room and dressed.

"Sweetie, are you done packing?" Mom yelled from downstairs.

"Almost!" I shouted.

Quickly packing the rest of my clothes and necessities, not forgetting my camera and film, I strolled down stairs with my luggage in hand.

I tried a final time, "Mom, is there any way I can just stay here by myself? I'm old enough and smart enough."

Mom just shook her head, "Sorry, sweetie." It looked like she wanted to say something else but closed her mouth.

I huffed and walked through the door, but grabbing my car keys on the way out. Opening the garage, I walked to my car and opened the back side doors and threw my suitcases in the back.

Getting into the car, I saw mom start up her car, "Just follow me!" She shouted even though both our windows are down and our cars are facing each other.

I just nodded. She opened the garage and pulled out, me doing the same after, then followed her for about ten minutes until we reached the said destination.

Hopping out of my car, I took a glance at the house. It was as big as mine, looked like a four bedroom. It had a modern Victorian style to it, like my own home.

"C'mon." Mom waved me over.

She rang the bell and a few seconds later we heard footsteps then the door opened, showing a beautiful lady around my moms age, she had black shiny hair and beautiful light grey eyes. Even though she had a bit of wrinkles, she looked as if she were in her late twenties.

"Mindy! You're finally here," she hugged my mom tightly, "and I see you've brought a beautiful young woman with you. You're Audrey?" Once I nodded, she gushed, "Oh you're so beautiful!" She hugged me which I returned lightly. "Please, come in." She guided us through the hallway and into the living room.
