josh didn't have to wait long, however, because tyler responded within seconds.

tyler: josh, i'd love to! could you drive down on friday, maybe?

josh swore his heart skipped a beat. friday? that was in two days. he hadn't even cleared any of this with his mother yet, and there's no way she'd say yes to him hanging out with some boy from the internet for a week.

...unless she thought he was doing something else.

josh ran down the stairs, searching for his mother while a plan formulated in his head. he found his mom sitting in her craft room, working on a scrapbook.

"hey, mom," he said, trying his best to act natural. "can i come in?"

she looked up from her project. "sure, josh. what do you need?"

he took a deep breath before letting the words rush out of his mouth. "well, ashley's family is visiting her aunt in for spring break and she was wondering if i could come with her. they're leaving friday, and they already said it's okay if i come with them. is that okay with you?"

josh tugged at the sleeves of the sweatshirt he was wearing, trying to conceal his nerves. if his mom caught him in his lie, he'd be grounded for life. and more importantly, he'd never get to meet tyler.

his mother took a moment to think about it before she answered him. "i don't see why not. but bring your schoolwork with you, i don't want you getting behind while you're away." she turned back to her scrapbook, dismissing josh, who was absolutely ecstatic.

"thank you so much, mom!" josh said, rushing back upstairs.

once he'd returned to his room, he texted tyler to confirm the plan. he realized he probably should have called ashley ahead of time to make sure it was okay to use her as a cover up, but he decided it would be okay. he doubted his parents would double check his story with ashley's parents, anyway.

josh turned on some of his favorite music and laid down on his bed. he faced the ceiling, a giant grin plastered onto his face. he really did feel bad about lying to his mother, but he pushed those feelings aside. he didn't want to focus on that now. he let his thoughts wander to what lie ahead. soon enough, he felt his eyes close as he let the music carry him into a deep, blissful sleep.
