"so..." ashley began. josh had met up with her in the hallways before school began.

"how was your time with tyler? it must have been pretty good, since, you know, you didn't text me all week."

josh sighed and shut his locker. he leaned his back against the cold metal and shut his eyes, recalling the events of the previous week, the good and the bad.

"i guess it was okay," josh said.

a look of confusion flashed across ashley's face. "just okay? i thought this guy was like, your idol."

"he is, ash. my time with him was great. my week was just ruined by... other things," josh said.

"josh, you're being unbelievably vague right now. can you just tell me what happened?" ashley pressed, growing impatient.

"okay, okay." josh took a deep breath. "i was only with tyler for two days because my mom flipped shit on me and made me come home."

"that sounds like your mom," ashley said, stifling a laugh.

josh smiled and rolled his eyes. "yeah, well, this time she actually had a reason to. i sort of... lied about where i was going."

"joshua dun, you are bad," ashley said sarcastically, a smirk on her lips.

"oh hush," he said, playfully punching her arm. "i told her i was staying with your family at your aunt's house. she lost her mind when she found out where i really was and made me come home immediately." he paused and felt a deep red blush creep into his cheeks before he continued. "which was unfortunate because tyler and i were getting rather... comfortable with each other."

"josh!" ashley exclaimed, laughing. "i'm seeing a whole new side of you today. i never knew you could be so scandalous!"

josh shrugged, grinning. "i mean, it would have been pretty scandalous, but my mom called me just before anything could happen."

ashley exploded with laughter. "your mom cock blocked you?"

josh could feel the weird looks the two of them were getting from other students in the halls. "ashley, shush! you're going to get us in trouble."

she wiped away the tears which had welled in her eyes from all of the laughter. "i'm sorry, i just can't believe that happened. that's the funniest thing i've ever heard," ashley said as she calmed down.

"yeah, yeah. i'm sure it is," josh said, draping his arm across her shoulders. "you're the worst, you know that?"

"mhm. i know," ashley said, giving josh a quick side hug. the bell rang just a few moments later.

"we should probably get to class, but ill catch you after school, okay?" ashley asked.

"of course," josh replied, heading to his class.

it felt good to feel happy again.
