“Get up!” My eyes shot open with a start as someone jerked the chains around my wrists. “Come on already! I ain't got all day!”

“Where are we going?” I demanded, fighting against the unknown wizard as he pulled me from the room by my chains. He must have undone the ones around my ankles while I was asleep, and I wondered exactly how hard I had been sleeping to not have noticed.

“The master wants you to get started on that book,” he said, leading me down a dark corridor.

I frowned at the orange-haired wizard in front of me, wishing I could use my magic. There's only one person moving me this time, so it shouldn't be too hard to get away.

“If you're thinking of escaping, don't bother,” the man sighed. “I have orders to knock you out if I have even the slightest suspicion that you'll try to get away. Those chains prevent you from using any magic, anyways.”

So, he needs me alive then. Part of me was relieved. Even if I tried to escape again, Dax wouldn't kill me. However, I'm sure he would do far worse. There are things worse than death, so I shouldn't test him until I'm positive I can escape.

“I have no interest in getting kicked in the chest again, so I'll pass,” I grumbled.

“Good. That makes my job easier.”

“And what exactly is your job?”

“I'm supposed to stay with you while you work. Before your team intervened and took it, I was the one studying that book.”

“Can you tell me why it's so important?” I asked. Although I had almost translated the text, I wasn't sure what the book was about. I knew it had something to do with lost magic, but I hadn't been able to figure out what that magic was.

“Master Dax thinks it contains something similar to the magic Zeref used, so he had me investigate it. I found a bunch of tales and legends about something like it, but didn't think it was real until we heard tell of an old book in some mountain village. Our men went there to investigate, and that's where they ran into you Fairy Tail wizards. After they recovered from their humiliating defeat, they questioned the villagers, and found out that you had taken the book as part of your reward. Those idiot villagers had no idea what kind of magic that book contained, so they just gave it away as if it were nothing!” He fumed.

“Did you just say Zeref's magic?!” I asked, staring at him in shock. “Why would someone replicate Zeref's magic and put it in a book?”

“Probably his followers from long ago,” he shrugged. “From what I could find, whoever wrote that book was killed by the magic inside of it because they couldn't control it.”

“And you want me to help you translate it for your crazy master? What makes you think he can control that kind of magic?!”

“Master Dax is a strong wizard,” he said, frowning at me. “And once you decipher the spells, you'll be free to go.”

“No way,” I said, stopping. “I won't help you guys do this. That book should be destroyed so that the magic inside it can never be used! If it really is similar to Zeref's magic, then it's too dangerous to leave in the hands of a dark guild!”

“You will help us decipher that book,” he growled, pulling hard on my chains. “If you value your life, you'll do as you are told!”

“Then kill me,” I said, stepping closer to glare into his eyes. “If I die, then there's no way you can translate that book. If it means keeping such a dangerous magic out of this world, then I'm more than willing to forfeit my own life.”
