It was early in the morning. It was a Thursday morning, meaning everyone was training and such. Loud blasts resonated through the building as mock battles took place. A large blast of lightning flew from a gray pony with messy white hair. The gray pony with the galaxy hair dodged it quickly and shot a string of black magic at him.
"Tae! You gotta try harder than that!" he shouted. Tae let out an annoyed hiss and zapped him.
"Don't tell me what to do, Ripple!" he retorted. Ripple rubbed his shoulder and sighed. He returned to a crouching stance but turned his head just slightly as the door to the Training Grounds opened. Three ponies entered the grassy field. Ripple sat up and grinned.
"Hey guys!" he greeted. A fourth pony entered behind them, his brown lanky body stalking through the grass towards him. His eyes were full of malice like always.
"Ugh, Kai's joined us," Ripple muttered under his breath. A pretty blue pony jogged over, her curly pink hair bouncing as she moved. Ripple's eye lit up and he smiled.
"Hi, Pinkie," he murmured. Kai groaned and got into his pair with Toxy. Her green hair sparkled in the light and she nodded to Kai to get ready for their Mock Battle. Pinkie looked at Tae before backing away and started her Mock Battle along with Mystery. Ripple turned his attention back to Tae and crouched down once again. Suddenly, an explosion threw Ripple backwards. He stumbled a bit but managed to catch himself.
"Ooops, sorry, didn't mean to," Kai said sarcastically. Ripple's eyes narrowed.
"What the hell, Kai! You almost hit me!" he shouted. Kai turned his body to him and marched forward.
"Well, maybe I wanted to hit you," he snapped. Ripple snarled in anger and shoved his face into Kai's.
"You wanna go, lil' man?!" he growled.
"What did you just call me, you overgrown trash-bag!?" Kai snarled, pressing his head against Ripple's. The tension on the grounds grew by 10 fold. The ponies around them came to a stop and watched in curiosity.
"Come on you guys..." the white Pegasus, Serenity, said. The door to the Training Grounds suddenly slammed open with a deafening boom.
"What in the name of the GODS IS GOING ON!" Asila roared. Ripple's breath caught in his throat and Kai stopped breathing. They looked at each other briefly, a similar reaction of fear echoing in their eyes. The other's in the room backed away as Asila stormed forward. From behind the door, another face poked out. Another large figure that could only belong to Loopy. She watched with large eyes. Ripple and Kai slunk down and crouched before her.
"We're so sorry, Asila!" they cried out at the same time. Asila towered over them with glowing golden eyes.
"No more apologizing. I've had enough of your fighting and bickering! You're worse than children fighting over a toy! Ripple, I thought I raised you better!" Asila snapped. Ripple lowered his head.
"But he almost hit m-"
"I don't care, you would've been fine. You've dealt with worse," Asila huffed. Ripple knew that she was right...
"This was my last straw, I must give you a punishment for your immature behavior," Asila said. The Training Grounds grew silent. Everyone knew that Asila didn't give punishment very often, and when she did, it was bad.
"You're punishment will go as following. Ripple, there is a big mission I need you to go on. You are the only one that can really do it," she said. Ripple cocked his head to the side.
"I-is that really a punishment? It doesn't sound bad.."
"However, you won't be paired with Pisces. You'll be paired with Kai."
Ripple's mouth fell open and Kai's dropped to the floor and pure shock.
"W-W-What?!" Kai yelped. He was taken aback by that.
"I can't work with him!" Ripple cried out. A smile grew on Asila's face.
"You may pick a few others to go with you. I'll give you the files after Training is over," Asila stated. She then whirled around, her blue orbs swinging wildly, and she stormed out of the room. In her wake was silence. A mixture of shock, surprise, and astonishment crossed Ripple's face. Ripple's shoulders tensed and he cranked his head towards Kai. Their eyes locked.
"Well... we don't have a choice," Ripple muttered. Kai turned away and stalked away. Ripple stood there in silence. This was the worst type of punishment he'd ever received. He had to partner up with his worst enemy on a mission. Ripple turned his head to face the gathered ponies.
"I'll decide who'll join us later..." he sighed. Ripple's head hung low as he walked out of the room. Kai stood just outside, glaring daggers at him. Ripple snorted and stopped beside him.
"Let's go see Asila. Afterwards, we can decide who'll join us," Kai suggested with a calm tone, though Ripple could tell that he was trying not growl at him. Ripple only nodded and he started down the long corridor that lead in the direction of Asila's chamber. Ripple knew that this wasn't gonna be fun.
