The Enemy of my Enemy

Chapter 8

Multiple blasts of magic shot out and hit a building. Rubble rained down and cracked against the ground. Fairy zoomed around like a bolt of lightning as she knocked over those that were trying to catch up to her. Toxy and Avery were pushing Ethan back with slashes of their sharpened daggers. His snakes snapped at them and hissed, but each time they struck at them, Toxy or Avery would be able to deflect. Ethan let out a furious snarl and several small snakes slithered away from him as Toxy clipped his leg with her sword. Ethan reared up on his back legs and slammed the two snakes, as though they were arms, into Toxy. She caught them on the surface of her sword but her legs jolted and started to tingle. Toxy's sword dropped as she fell backwards. Her body buzzed with an awful feeling. A dark mist cloud swirled around her. 

"What the hell did you do to her?" Avery shouted. 

"I only paralyzed her. You're next!" Ethan gave her a devilish grin and rammed into her. Avery wrapped her legs around his head and threw him over her shoulder. She smashed him into the ground with so much force that the stone beneath him cracked. Avery slashed her dagger through the snakes' throats and they vanished into a dark cloud of mist. Ethan let out a howl of dismay that was cut short as Avery slammed the hilt of her dagger into his head, knocking him out cold. She turned around, her eyes wide. 

Alexander was now covered with mini snakes. His body was shaking violently as he fought the urge to collapse. 

"Get off me, you slimy bastards!" Alex snarled as he shook his body wildly. Several snakes flew off him and burst into mist. Alex saw Avery run over and she started to pull the snakes away. It was much too late. Alex fell to the ground and his vision went black. His consciousness faded away into oblivion. 

"Crap," Avery spat and she stomped at the remaining snakes, causing them to turn into mist. Avery felt something grab onto her shoulder and looked in horror as one of the snakes latched itself into her shoulder. Avery hissed and she shook it off. Her leg went limp and Avery fell to the ground beside Alex. 

Fairy sat ontop of the rock above them. She looked down at them with a grin of pure pleasure. 

"You guys are slow!" she yelled down to them. 

"We're not slow!" Lucien shouted back with less confidence than usual. Ripple glanced around and nudged Kai. 

"Do you still have those exploding knives?" Ripple whispered subtly to him. Kai gave him a discreet nod. 

"Use it on the rock she's standing on. Throw as fast as you can," Ripple murmured, still looking up at Fairy. Out of the corner of his eye there was a flash of movement as Kai reared up and flung the knife straight at the rock. Fairy turned her head right as the knife connected and a large explosion tore through the rock formations. The rock that Fairy was standing on shook and began to fall forward. Fairy flapped her wings in confusion but hit the ground and was enveloped in a cloud of hazy smoke and dust. Pinkie ran forward and flapped her wings in surprise as Fairy blasted through the smoke like a bullet and slammed into Pinkie. She went flying backwards and skidded across the ground. Ripple narrowed his eyes in anger and he charged at Fairy with Lucien, Leo, and Kai running beside him. Lucien went to kick her but she dodged it with graceful agility. Leo ran behind Ripple and Kai. The two parted and Leo headbutt her forcefully. 

"Nice job, Leo!" Ripple praised as Fairy tumbled backwards. Ripple glanced towards the other side of the battle and saw that Avery and Toxy had already taken out Ethan, though they, along with Allie and Alex, were on the ground. Ripple hissed. Suddenly, Ripple tensed up and snarled as Fairy ran at Pinkie who was trying to stand back up. 

"Black Magic!"

"Unison!!!"

Ripple and Kai both shouted at the same time. Ripple's horn glowed with a darkness that began to suck up the light around him. In sync with Ripple, Kai's wings flew open and lightning sparked along his body like snakes. Ripple lowered his head and a terrifying swirl of darkness raced towards Fairy. Above them, the clouds swirled and a strike of lightning came streaking down upon them. The two powerful forces of magic clashed together and the darkness of Ripple's magic sparked with white lightning. Fairy let out a gasp as it struck her. The blast roared throughout the entrance to the city. Ripple and Kai flew backwards from the force. Gusts of wind ripped through the area as the attack began to fade. Finally, light returned as the clouds departed. The entire neighborhood had been obliterated. Ripple stood up and stared at the large crater-like hole that replaced the abandoned houses. Fairy's body lay at the bottom of it. Her eyes flashed open underneath her hair and she grimaced in pain. She couldn't move at all. Ripple looked at Kai in disbelief. 

"What was that?" Kai asked. Ripple was so speechless that he could only shrug. Pinkie ran over to them with Leo and Lucien behind them. 

"What did you two just do?" She cried out in confusion. 

"We don't even know..." Ripple shouted. Kai let out an angry yowl as Fairy's mangled body was taken from the crater by Ethan. His sweater rippled in the wind and stared at the Team with menacing blue eyes before flashing out of the existence, leaving behind a puff of black smoke. 

"Should we go after them?" Leo asked. Ripple shook his head, still confused on what just happened. 

"C'mon... we gotta get the others back to Loopy. They don't look very good," Lucien said, his eyes clouded with awe. Ripple merely nodded and they clambered over to the other four ponies that were strewn across the ground. Ripple's mind was a mess of thoughts. What had just happened? How did they just do that? Ripple shook his head to clear the thoughts. He needed his mind on the situation at hand... and that was getting the injured back to Loopy.

"Sir..." 

"They sure seem powerful... bring Fairy to the healers... I'll think about what to do next," the deep voice growled. 

"Yes..." the other pony said. A devilish chuckle echoed through the dark void.

"Asila is in for a little surprise..."
