The Enemy of my Enemy

Chapter 3

Ripple, Kai, Pinkie, Toxy, Allie, Leo, Luicen, and Alexander all sat at a booth at one of the city's restaurants. In front of them was the case file. The group was silent as the others read over what the Alliance was about. 

"So uh, what do we gotta do?" Allie asked without taking her eyes off of the parchment paper. 

"We just have to do the usual. We have to gather as much information as we can before detaining them. As long as we can do it quickly, it shouldn't be much trouble. Asila told us that the group was not much bigger than the organization," Kai replied in a hushed tone. The others nodded in understanding.  Ripple filled out the check and the group left. 

"What are we gonna do now? How are we supposed to get any leads?" Allie asked. Ripple thought for a moment then shrugged. 

"I'm not entirely sure w-" he let out a grunt as another pony ran into him. They stopped and jumped backwards. Ripple looked at the pony. She had a blue coat with gray hair that faded into green at the tips. Her eyes were blood red. However, a marking on her shoulder caught his eye. It was familiar... that was the Arcane Alliance marking he had seen in the file! Ripple leaped forward. 

"You're an Alliance member!" Ripple hissed. The others let out a small gasp and the pony whirled around and high-tailed it out of there. Ripple yelled at her to come back and ran after her. Pinkie, Kai, Toxy, Alexander, Lucien, Allie, and Kai ran after him. 

"No matter what, we have to catch her!" 

She swerved between other ponies with speedy agility. Ripple shoved others to the side, yelling after the pony. 

"Get back here!" He cried out. The pony slid and ran into an alleyway. Ripple skidded to a halt, breathing heavily. Pinkie, Kai, Toxy, and Allie flew after her. Ripple, Lucien, Leo, and Alex followed suit on the ground. Soon, the buildings began to become more spread out and the river appeared up ahead. The pony was making a run along the river with Kai on her tail. Ripple charged after them at full speed, his tail streaming behind him. The pony whirled around and kicked Kai in the face, sending him tumbling backwards. Kai spluttered before he scrambled to his hooves and followed behind Ripple. 

"What do we do?!" Kai shouted. Ripple glanced around furiously. 

"I-I don't know!" Ripple replied as he ran. Kai flung himself forward but missed her. He stumbled but was able to keep up with Ripple. Behind them, the wing beats of the others on the Team grew louder. Ripple glanced back and saw them catching up. Suddenly, the pony's hooves connected with Ripple's face. Pain erupted throughout his head and he crashed into Kai, sending them both rolling into the river. Water enveloped Ripple and he thrashed, terror surging through him. Kai's wings sent bubbles wafting everywhere as he tried to get to the surface of the water. They tumbled along in a panic as the river sloshed trough the canal. Ripple forced his body upwards and got his head above water. Behind him, Kai splashed around in the water as he desperately tried to gain control. Ripple and Kai continued to be swept along with the river's mad current. Ripple reached for Kai and pulled him towards him. Ripple let out a surprised grunt as they almost went back under. 

"I can't swim!" Kai sputtered. 

"I can see that!" Ripple hissed and they were plunged back under. Ripple kicked at the water and managed to bring them back to the surface. Ripple glanced up to see Pinkie and Toxy flying over them. The two of them lowered themselves and began to fly right above the water's surface. Toxy and Pinkie lowered two ropes and Ripple snagged them with his jaw. Toxy apparently wasn't expecting the weight and she almost plummeted into the water with them. She strained to keep above the water and Pinkie lifted her up. Together, they pulled Ripple and Kai from the water. Kai flapped his wings frantically and Toxy dropped them on the the cement side walk beside the river. Ripple's breathing was heavy and he spit out some water. They were both dripping wet and shivering. 

"Are you guys ok?!" Alexander asked with a concerned tone. 

"What about the Alliance member?" Ripple questioned, glancing around as if expecting her to just pop out of no where. 

"She got away," Lucien muttered. Ripple looked down and grunted. But then again, they at least had a lead. For now, they had a slight idea of what they were dealing with. Kai stood up and growled. 

"If I wasn't pushed into this damn river, I would've been able to catch her!" Kai snapped. The others grew silent. 

"Are you saying that it was my fault?" Ripple hissed. 

"What if I am?" 

"Well, maybe if you weren't right behind me, you could've caught her then," Ripple snarled. The tension rose in the air and Kai and Ripple were soon staring daggers at each other. 

"Hey guys, why don't we go eat?!" Leo asked with a happy smile. Kai glared at him with a look of complete malice before he walked off with a tense body. Ripple bit his lip and lowered his head. 

"God dammit!" he hissed. Pinkie hugged him and he turned his head to watch Kai stalk off into the city. 

"Let's get some rest, then we can continue looking," Lucien suggested. Ripple nodded and they started back to the organization's building.

The room looked like a dark void. The door opened and the light was engulfed in the darkness as if it were consumed. 

"So, there is someone out there that is looking for us."

"Yes, sir..." 

"It must be Asila's doing," a gruff voice sighed, "Then let's see what they're made of."

"Send another soldier."

"Yes, my Lord," the pony replied. The door reopened and the light was once again mauled by the dark void. 

"Come forth, Asila, let me see what your little children are made of. You can even watch me crush them beneath my hoof. You will regret your decision to move against me."
