The Team sat around the circular table that was placed at the edge of the kitchen. Kai and Lucien sat in the front with grim expressions. The room was silent with the exception of Milantha's muffled snarls escaping from the other room.
"So... What is this meeting about?" Ripple asked with a serious tone. Kai gave them all a toothy smile.
"She finally fessed up," Lucien answered with a proud grin. Ripple slammed his hoof against the table causing everyone around him to jump.
"What did you learn?" Ripple questioned.
"Oh... just where the Alliance is housing itself," Kai replied. Ripple's eyes sparkled and he smiled.
"Then we should go immediately! We should just end this right now!" Toxy interjected happily.
"No," Kai said. The room fell into silence again with that.
"Why not?" Ripple asked with a tense voice. Kai's robotic eyes turned to Ripple and they locked onto each other like predator vs. predator going after a single piece of prey.
"Because if we go now, we wont have any idea of how powerful they are," Kai answered, his voice laced with the same tension that was beginning to fill the room.
"If we go now, we can surprise them. We could catch them off guard. I say we attack right now," Ripple growled. Kai leaned across the table and bared his teeth.
"Are you really ready to risk the lives of your teammates?" Kai snapped.
"When did you ever start caring about other ponies?" Ripple shot back. Kai jumped across the table and grabbed Ripple.
"When did you stop caring about your team?" Kai retorted. The others scrambled away from the table and Ripple and Kai began to shout at each other.
"If we go now, we have a higher chance of winning!" Ripple shouted. Kai snapped his teeth at him.
"If we go now, we have a higher chance of dying," Kai spat. Ripple narrowed his eyes and his horn began to light up. The light in the room began to be consumed by the magic.
"No! Wait!" Allie butted in. Ripple turned to her and he saw terror in her eyes.
"W-what if we instead... just... inspected the base?" Allie stammered. Kai pulled away from Ripple and turned to face Allie. He towered over her with a menacing look on his face. Toxy and Alex stepped over and stood next to Allie.
"That's a good idea!" Toxy said, nodding her head wildly. Alex nodded his head in agreement as well. Ripple sat up. His breathing was heavy and he stared at Kai with resentment.
"Fine," Kai spit and turned around. In the other room the sound of glass shattering caught their attention.
"Shit," Lucien howled and he ran into the room. Milantha's chair was knocked over and the chains were broken. The window was open and the drapes were fluttering in the breeze. Kai leaned out the window and watched as Milantha jumped across the rooftops with another pony on her tail.
"Dammit!" Kai shouted. Ripple narrowed his eyes and squared his shoulders.
"Let's go," Ripple growled.
---
Kai and Lucien ran ahead of Ripple and the others. The sky was beginning to grow lighter by the second as mid-day was approaching. The sun beat down overhead as they ran. Lucien had told them that the base was supposedly at the edge of the city. Ripple watched as the towering buildings began to shrink in size until they were spread out and small. In the distant was a large gray building. It towered into the sky like a mountain. Ripple had always thought that it was an abandoned Dungeon that had been defeated a while ago. Then again, that was a perfect hide-out for some evil organization. Clouds swirled around the top of it as they approached the crumbling building. Vines and moss grew between the cracks of the building.
"Now what?" Leo asked.
"There are guards!" Ripple hissed as he ducked down behind some undergrowth. The others followed, but Leo stood there as he stared in awe at the building.
"Leo!" Toxy whispered and she pulled him into the bush with a yelp. Ripple watched as the guards paced back and forth in front of some large doors. They were made of obsidian and crested with red rubies that glinted in the sunlight.
"There's no way to get in," PB said. Kai snorted in disagreement.
"Nah, we can totally find a way to get in. Ripple, uh, you have that little pet of yours, right?"
"He's not a pet, he's an Amuleta. A Chariil-"
"So a familiar."
"Whatever," Ripple muttered, "Plagg, come forth for a moment."
The bracelet on his leg lit up and, with a hazy blue light, appeared the small bat-wolf.
"Awwwwww, so small!" Toxy giggled. Plagg shifted into a comfortable position. His bat wings folded in and he look up at the Team.
"What do you need?" Plagg asked. Ripple looked at Kai.
"We need you to infiltrate the base. We just need you to be ready for when the time comes when we are able to get close enough for you to squeeze in," Kai said. Plagg looked down and mulled over the demand.
"Alright... I guess I can do it. As long as I get some extra cheese afterwards," Plagg answered. Ripple grinned and nodded.
"Alright. We now know that this is place where they're hiding out. We just don't know their strengths or weaknesses. We can't attack without knowing at least something. Milantha only told us about the base," Lucien murmured as he peeked out of the bush again. Ripple grunted and he crouched down. Plagg walked over and vanished, leaving behind whirling blue smoke.
"Let's head back and decide what to do," Ripple suggested. The others nodded and they started back to the edge of the city.
-------
"Send Fairy and Ethan. They should be able to do something."
"But sir-"
"I said send them. I don't want them getting away without consequence for snooping around," a deep voice rumbled.
"O-of course, sir," the other voice stammered. A loud clinking sound echoed through the dark void.
"Give them hell."
