Lauren's POV:
Have you ever felt as though you were out of your body? Have you ever had an out of body experiment when you were up high looking down on yourself? Floating there, staring at the moment. A moment that felt too good... too special to be real?
I just felt that.
My hearted pounded against my chest. My hands shook. My eyes shed tears upon tears, while my memories of us flooded my mind. Looking in her eyes as I asked her, seeing the joy, the hope, the future. Seeing the same Mani that I fell in love with so many years ago, looking at me waiting to ask that four word question.
Will you marry me?
She said yes.
YES
As she nodded with her own tears flowing and the word yes escaping from her perfect lips over and over, I felt it. It felt like it wasn't happening... like I was dreaming. This is all a dream. A dream that I want to never fucking end.
Lauren sat in the back of the classroom, far right in the corner just where she liked to sit. Normani always sat right beside her even though she loved sitting front row, that was her thing. However she knew Lauren hated it, so she would sit by her.
But of course Mr.Mendes moved Normani away. He moved Lauren's only friend, the only person that helped her get through the day. The reason why she found the strength to get up and come to this shitty school.
The Latina slouched in her chair trying not to bring attention to herself. As she looked ahead she watched her bestfriend wander into the classroom and my is she beautiful. Her brown hair, her full lips, her skin, and that smile... oh that smile.
Who is she smiling at?
Lauren twisted her head slightly to see Keith. Oh, she hated him. Normani didn't. It was obvious. He just walked her to class, that's why she didn't meet Lauren by the lockers like she normally did.
They're standing by the door and Lauren stared, remaining slouched. Her eyes roamed her, her mannerisms, her gestures, her facial expressions as she talks to him. She likes him.
The Latina felt a pang of disappointment in her chest. Of course Normani likes him. Look at him.
She would never like you, you loser.
Lauren always scolded heself for being this way, even though she'd been getting hell from others her whole life for being the way that she is.
Everyone else besides Normani. The many times she has stood up for Lauren over these years and assured the Latina that she was perfect the way that she was. Although Lauren almost never believed her. She wanted to but she couldn't.
She glanced at her hands on the table and I see that her fist was clinched and her thigh was anxiously tapping under the table.
A few days ago her mother told her Clear your mind of can't.
But what does that truly mean? She's a 9th grade lesbian who is madly in love and wants to marry her oh so straight bestfriend. She might as well stop dreaming because dreams end in heartbreak, especially for people like her.
