Chapter 2- Constant Light
*MILLIE'S POV*
Finn, Noah, and I were walking home from Caleb's house after the whole incident, I was trying to hold back my tears and anger after what Caleb called me but it was clear Noah knew that I was upset, he was holding onto my hand for the whole time. "That's me." Noah pointed to his house and went up his driveway. "Hey Millie, you want to come inside and call your parents for a ride. My mom and dad aren't home, so we could marathon Grey's Anatomy together." He smiled. I shook my head slightly and Finn turned to me, "Uh-h, Noah. I can walk her home." Finn looked into my eyes and then looked at his shoes quickly. "Okay, um bye guys." Noah ran into his house.
Finn and I continued to walk down the street, it was pretty silent. It felt like we were the last two people on earth, and I wanted it to stay like that. "Mills.." Finn broke the silence, "Yes?" I looked down to the ongoing concrete as we walked and I felt his gaze. "Look, about Caleb. His mom really doesn't give him freedom, and he was just upset that we probably won't be able to hang out together freely again. But I am proud of you." He stopped and hesitantly touched my arm. "Why are you proud? I totally failed him, and you.." I sniffled. "Hey Mills, about what I said. I wasn't angry, okay? And I am proud because if I were called something like that by my best friend, I would straight up sock him in the eye." I giggled quietly at his comment. "Look, what I am trying to say is, you never get mad Millie, you always stay calm. And honestly I don't know how you do it. Caleb's always been kind of a prick to you because you were a girl and his mom wasn't totally into that. And I thought it was ridiculous because it's not your fault that Caleb has restrictions." We sat on the curb. "Finn..I don't get angry because-" I was about to tell him the truth but suddenly, I couldn't. I couldn't tell him the truth of Charlie's death, if he knew, he would have hated me. "Because..what?" He questioned, before I opened my mouth, his phone started ringing and he pulled out his cell from his green bomber jacket, "Crap, Nick texted me. I have to get home, my parents are looking for me." I gave him a small smile and fixed my skirt as the back of my legs touched the cool cement. "You look cold." He wrapped his green bomber jacket around me and suddenly, our faces were inches apart. I looked into his brown eyes that shared some constant light, and I noticed him looking down to my lips, "Millie.." He whispered, gently touching his forehead with mine, his hand trailed up my neck, and his thumb was stroking my cheek, "Finn.." My hand slowly landed on top of his knee, and we scooted closer. Out of nowhere, we heard a bell that sounded like a bike heading our way, we broke our position quickly as a mother and a small blonde girl on a pink bike passed by. "Um." Finn quickly stood up. "You can walk yourself home right?" Finn said which immediately broke my heart, "S-sure." I stuttered. He turned around and headed the opposite way, totally ignoring the moment we just had.
*FINN'S POV*
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. I repeatedly thought to myself, Millie and I were about to kiss and I don't know what came over me. I knew for a fact that I always thought she was an awesome and beautiful person but I never thought that would ever happen. The fact that I almost kissed her left me in awe. I couldn't stop thinking about it, and a very big part of me really wanted it to happen over and over again.
As I was walking, I passed by Caleb's house again. There was one police car, with red and blue lights flashing. Mrs Mclaughlin saw me and pointed to me, with the police there. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to run. "Are you Finn...Wolfhard?" A man in a badge approached me, I nodded slowly and looked down, "Look you are not in trouble but your friend Caleb left the house a few hours ago and April- I mean his mom, said that she couldn't get a hold of him." I was confused why she didn't mention the drugs, Mrs. Mclaughlin started walking over and she oddly placed her hand on the police officer's shoulder, "Finn, tell him where Caleb is. Jason- I mean Officer Dwight is good at his job." She smiled at him. "Uh- well this is embarrassing, but both my parents are cops, and if he was good at his job. He would've asked you where Caleb likes to hang out, and that is the park. But you obviously wouldn't know that because it seems like you are wasting your time by spending it with so-called cops and not looking for Caleb." I answered with a smart-ass statement. "Finn! What has gotten into you?" She frowned. "Look, I am sorry but if you weren't such an over the top catholic mom, then Caleb probably would've wanted to come home and invite his friends over without feeling embarrassed. Calling the police is just too much. So bye." I rolled my eyes, "Look, I only called Officer Dwight because he is a..good friend of mine." She mumbled. "Cool, I hope you find him..Jason." I walked away and saw from the corner of my eye that he was reassuring her. It was quite odd how close they were, I turned around fully and I noticed her pecking her on the lips. My eyes widened and I quickened my pace.
I ran into the park and Caleb and Sadie hanging out at the skate park. "Caleb!" I shouted. He ignored me completely, Sadie looked up and smiled and walked up to me. "Hey Finn, wanna hang out with us?." She put her hair behind her ear. "Look, Sadie. Now is not the time, I really need to talk to Caleb. I know this is totally ruining my rep, but this is important." I kept looking behind her. "I think drunk Finn already ruined you rep." She giggled. I ignored her comment and went up to Caleb. "Caleb, okay I get the silent treatment. But there's an officer at your house and your mom totally kissed him in front of me." I said, and he still ignored me, "Caleb, did you hear me? Your mom is cheating on your dad." I said again. "I know! Okay! I freaking know!" He stood up and yelled. "You do?" I questioned. "A police car drops her off home every night." He said quietly. "I am sorry bro.." I put my hand on his shoulder, "I really don't want to be your bro right now. You walked off with Millie like she was your priority." He rolled his eyes. "You told us to go home!" I argued. "Your house is in the opposite direction, and I know for sure, that you didn't want to walk Noah home and give him a kiss goodnight." He said sarcastically. "Why do you care if I like Millie?" I said. "There are so many things you don't know about her." He scoffed. "Yeah like what." I slightly shoved him. "Ask her about her brother's death." He ended the conversation and walked off with Sadie. What was he talking about?
