Chapter 5- Goof

*GATEN'S POV*

I was walking Sadie to her house that was quite farther than others. I can see her red hair shine under the poorly lit street lights, but she looked beautiful as ever. I knew her and Caleb hooked up like once, but Caleb doesn't like her as much as I do. She was more precious than her body, her tom-boy personality, and her humor. She was like me, a goof. Although she acted flirty and mischievous in front of the other boys, she admitted to me she only did that to change her image, but the true, awesome Sadie loved being a clown, and making goofy comebacks.

"You really didn't have to walk me this far, I could've asked my parents to pick me up." Sadie smiled at me.

"Nah, I didn't want you to wait in Millie's driveway this late at night." I put my coat around her, "Here you seem cold."

"Thanks." She bit her lip,

"So I have a question." I said.

"Go ahead." She put her hair behind her ear.

"Are you and Caleb like a thing now? Cause you are always with him." I asked.

"No, not really. When I first met him, he was nice. So I just stick around with him." She answered, I was relieved. I didn't want to be jealous of my best friend.

"Good." I said under my breath.

"Good?" She snickered.

"Unlike everyone else who actually cares if people know about their crushes, I like you Sadie. And I think you are pretty rad, and I will emphasize on the 'pretty' part any day." I stopped on my tracks and confessed.

"I like you too, Gaten." She put her hand on my chest trying to lean in for a kiss.

"U-um I want to take it slow. This isn't really my thing, I am new at this. Plus, I wanna value our friendship first, talk to you more." I reassured her.

"Wow you might be exactly my type, curly-haired goof, pudding lover, romantic, and accepting. Please don't ever change." She giggled.

"Wow, I never got that type of comment before. Especially from a really awesome girl." We continued to walk.

"I'm glad this is slow, and this way I can get to know you and I can plan an awesome first date that is totally your type." She stopped in front of a driveway and handed me my jacket.

"Cool." I gave her a platonic embrace, and she headed inside giving me one last look causing my cheeks to rush with blood.

*MILLIE'S POV*

My dad always had this traditional barbecue where all of his old British friends from all over America, road trip to our house and come for a fourth of July party. But the last time we saw those people was at my brother's funeral. This year we have gotten better, and my parents have gotten back on track with their friends, so the tradition is back on.

I put on a sapphire sundress, and I cringed at the girliness that screamed when I looked at my reflection, I was girly but I just really hated this dress. It made me look like a nun. I went back into my closet putting on a tight off-the-shoulder crop top and threw on some overalls layered over it and I could say I did look like an unintentional sex god but it's not like I was going to impress anyone.

"Mills! Our first guests have arrived!" My mum yelled from the bottom floor. I skipped downstairs to see my dad's best-friend and his son Keith Chance. Keith was only two years older than me, when we were younger he would sometimes come to the barbecue but due to his split parents sometimes he would be with his mum. It completely slipped my mind he would be here tonight.
