Tris

Tobias looks at me with strained eyes. I can tell he had a bad dream, but I don't ask him.

We walk into the cafeteria and take a seat. Uriah and Caleb sit across from us. I stare at Caleb. His face reflects my father's. His eyes and expressions remind me of my mother.

Grief begins to overfill inside me. As if on cue, Tobias squeezes my hand. He doesn't show concern, but I know he is.

As I stuff the pieces of delightful bread into my mouth, I notice Christina and Peter walk through the door. They don't walk together, just at the same time. Peter has a look of guilt on his face, but no one would notice because he wears it everyday.

I look over to Tobias to see him give Peter a death glare. He does this often for no reason at all as far as I know. I slowly kiss Tobias's cheek to calm him. He looks back at me and kisses my lips. We sit like this for a long time. In the background, I faintly hear gagging and laughter. After a long moment, I hear Caleb coughing to get our attention. We pull away too fast, but Tobias looks at me gently before glaring at Caleb. I laugh as Caleb stares off into space completely terrified.

We all laugh and talk for sometime. Tobias and I walk back to the hotel and lay down next to each other. Even though it's mid morning, I fall asleep in his arms.

A few hours later, I wake up. I turn over to see Tobias still holding me. No one is around.

"How long was I out?" I softly ask.

"About an hour."

"What did you do while I was asleep?"

"I watched you and thought."

"About what?"

"Well, lots of things."

"What kinds of things?"

He slowly pulled me in for a kiss.

"You."

I blushed and kissed him back more passionately than before. We kissed for at least two minutes before hearing the door slam open.

It's Caleb.

Tobias groans in my ear, and I laugh.

"Did you guys know that Uriah kissed Christina?"

"What?!" I asked.

"Yeah. I saw them on my way back from seeing Matthew. Did you know Matthew has invented the world's..."

"Caleb! We don't care. Get to the point," Tobias strictly says.

"Well, they were in the hall leading towards Matthew's lab. They don't know anyone saw them. Uriah said something like, 'I have had a crush on you for a while' or something."

"And what did Christina say?"

"She didn't say anything. She kissed him instead."

I stood in shock. My best friends liked each other.

I sat down opening my mother's journals to clear my head. As I started reading an entry I hadn't read yet, Tobias said, "Tris, I'll be out for a while. I'll see you soon." I smiled at him and went to give him a kiss.

I knew where he was going. He was going to see Nita, but I trusted him. Trusted him more than anyone else to make the right decision. I sat back down and read, soaking in my mother's lovely words.
