Tris' POV

As I read silently on my bed, Caleb walked in. I didn't look up. I knew it was him. Ever since he was young, he always scuffed the floor with his feet in every step.

He sat down on his own bed and said, "Bea- I mean Tris, please tell your boyfriend to not threaten me when I am informing me on the dangers that could come in the future."

I stared at him for two reasons: One, I knew Tobias had a good reason, like a lecture or something, and two, Caleb almost called me Beatrice.

I couldn't stand to be called that name, especially now, when I was always thinking about my parents. The standard Abnegation name was not who I was. Tris described me well enough.

I didn't care what Tobias had done, truthfully. I believed anything that came Caleb's way, he would deserve even if it came from me.

We sat there awkwardly for a few minutes saying nothing and looking off into space.

Tobias stormed in and slammed the door in the process.

He sat down on his bed that was only two inches away from mine.

I could tell he didn't want comforting or anything but loneliness, but I didn't care. I needed comfort from anyone except Caleb.

I moved on to his bed wanting to talk about what I had read, but I kept quiet until Caleb had left to go see Matthew.

"My mother was a great writer," I say mostly to myself.

Tobias looks up sternly but nods. It was palpable that he was angry, so I didn't push him.

"My mother really loved my father. She wasn't in the same faction as him, but they still found a way. If you and I had both chosen Abnegation, would it have been close to the same?"

He stared at me for some time before speaking. "I think it would've been similar. Not as affectionate. Not as real."

I understood what he meant.

"You alright?"

"Yeah," he lied. I could easily tell just as he could tell when I did it.

"Really, what's going on?"

He explained his situation. He explained how we needed to go somewhere, anywhere. Escape.

"Escape?"

"Escape."
