Tris
I decided to go for a walk to clear my head. My mother was all I could think of. Her journals were very informational and showed me a side of my mother I only thought I knew. She was kind, giving, and especially brave.
I wish I could be like her. She is a great role model for me, but I never really saw her as more than my mother.
I walked out of the hotel and headed towards the structure in the middle of the lobby. It interested me, but I wasn't sure why. It was long and tall and looked like the face of dog. It had made me wonder if the structure was a creature that actually existed.
I continued to walk. I walked past Matthew's lab and the screening room.
Suddenly, I heard voices. One voice was very masculine yet majestic. Tobias.
The other voice was David. He spoke clearly and quickly.
I turned the corner and saw David holding a gun up to Tobias.
Right before he shot the gun, I kicked the gun from behind. The bullet went towards the light. The bullet destroyed the light, and it came crashing down on Tobias.
I grabbed the gun even though I knew I wasn't gonna use it.
I shake the gun to make sure there is a bullet left. There are at least two left.
I take two steps away from David to make sure he doesn't overpower me.
"Don't move," I say in a harsh tone.
David is smart enough not to move. I wait patiently for him to say something, but he doesn't.
"What's happening? Why did you try to kill Four?!" I say angrily.
"You two are escaping. You're not allowed to."
I shoot him in the leg, not wanting to hit him again. I made a warning shot.
"You let us escape or I kill you," I said.
I don't want to kill him. I didn't want to injure him either, but this might be the only way.
"No," he says. "You're not going to kill me."
"Then why did I shoot you?"
"I know you won't kill me. I have a proposition to make. You and Four may stay here. You become part of the council for six months. After six months, you all may leave. Four can be used in some experiments about his kind."
"His kind?!" I say angrily.
"Genetically damaged but can withstand simulations."
"Fine. We have a deal," I say as I shot the last bullet towards a blank wall with no rooms on the opposite side.
He walks away, and I run over to Tobias, who is on the ground with blood surrounding him. At first, I think he is dead. I continue to examine him, and I hear his breathing. His heart beats much slower than normal.
Suddenly, Matthew and Caleb walk around the corner, talking about science and math.
They rush over and immediately begin to help. they take parts of their clothes and tie them around the wounds. Matthew takes his belt and ties it hard around a large cut in his leg.
I run for help. I sprint faster than I ever have before, tripping every few steps.
I run into the hospital and grab several nurses and a gurney. They run with me, but I have to stop often for them to catch up.
Once we arrive, Tobias is mainly cleaned of the blood, but his eyes aren't open. The nurses examine Tobias.
Caleb hugs me to calm me. I don't hug back. The entire hug is very awkward.
"Please don't cry," Caleb says softly like he used to do when I was afraid as a kid.
I hadn't noticed I was crying. The stress and anxiety from his injury only worried me.
The nurses take him back to the hospital, and I follow them the entire way. They ask me to stay out while they attach him to everything that I don't understand.
I wait. Wait. Wait. Nothing happens for a few hours. Most of the nurses have left the hospital. There are about six nurses left in the hospital.
One nurse with a condensing voice says to me, "Honey, you should rest. The poor dear was a little injury. He'll be okay. I promise, sweetheart."
"What's wrong with him?!" I shout.
The woman replies, "I don't like your tone, dear. He will be fine. His injuries have been taken care of. He passed out from the lack of oxygen. He will wake up within the next few days. A week at most."
The nurses leave, and Tobias and I are left in the room alone. He rests peacefully, and he looks years younger. His beautiful and handsome face is not punctured and still looks harsh.
I sit and watch him for a few hours, mesmerized by how he sleeps.
I begin to yawn, and I crawl into the hospital bed with Tobias. I hug him and push myself against his chest with my back. I snuggle against him and can't help but say, "I love you."
