Tris

After everyone agreed to the plan, we went to bed. I couldn't sleep.

I lay awake listening to the sounds in the room. Caleb moans in his sleep. Christina cries. Ray and Peter are silent sleepers. I turn to look to look at Tobias. He snores quietly. He faces away from me. I crawl over him gently trying not to wake him. There is just enough room for me to nestle next to him. He moves his arm from his side and wraps it around my stomach. In this moment, I feel safe and happy. Because he holds me, I feel protected.

I move my head trying to get more comfortable. My head touches his pillow that's wet. I don't understand why his pillow is wet. He doesn't drool. I turn my body around and notice tear streaks across his face and tear stains all over his shirt. He's been crying. I also my wrap my arm around him trying to comfort him in his sleep.

"Tris," he whispers in a distressed voice.

At first, I think he is awake, but he's not. His eyes remain closed, and he doesn't move.

Somehow, I fall asleep.

When I wake up, Tobias isn't next to me, which means he's doing his job for today.

I slowly get up and take a shower. The hot water feels refreshing on my skin, and the soap gets rid of all the grime and dirt covering my body.

I get dressed quietly trying to let everyone sleep a little longer.

I grab the gun Tobias left me under my pillow and hide it in my boot.

I walk the halls trying to see if anyone is awake. The only people awake are in the cafeteria eating or preparing the food.

I walk past the main lobby towards the unfamiliar room Tobias described to me yesterday.

I turn left then right then right again. Tobias stands outside the room guarding.

"Hey," I say calmly.

"I've already hacked the security system. Walk in. Click the red button on the panel and walk inside. You won't be harmed, but this might help," he says as he hands me an oxygen tank that can be held on my back.

"I'll guard and shoot anyone who comes near you. I won't let anyone hurt you."

"Will an alarm go off?"

"Yes. It'll only be heard in the hallways. No one can hear it in the cafeteria, rooms, or labs."

I stand outside this room recalling what I must do to survive and retrieve the memory serum.

I stare at Tobias waiting for him to tell me when to go.

"I love you," he says after a long moment. He wraps his arms around my waist and kisses me passionately, in case this is our last.

I open the door and walk into a small beige room with a control panel on the right side. I walk towards the panel and instantly notice the red button. I put the oxygen mask on and secure it in place. I press the red button.

A high pitched alarm sounds off, and it hurts my ears. Another door opens and I walk inside. I walk over to the safe attached to left wall. I press the button and struggle for air all I. The same moment. I don't think I'm dying, but I think might.

I grab the serum and sprint for the door.

I walk out and out my hands in the air trying to catch my breath. Christina, Ray, Caleb, Uriah, and Peter are now standing next to Tobias.

I look into Tobias' eyes. I know that if Christina wasn't around, he'd be crying right now.

We run down the hallway until we get to the emergency escape door. Even though we are a flight up, Christina thinks we can jump.

Tobias looks down worriedly. He grabs my hand and closes his eyes. We jump together not thinking about anything.

Christina and Uriah follow our lead, then Ray, Caleb, and Peter.

We run swiftly and quickly towards the Bureau's truck.

We don't start the car, but go over the plan one more time. Caleb and Ray built a stink bomb. Instead of putting a foul smelling fragrance inside, we put the memory serum inside.

Tobias grabs the bomb and runs inside. He drops it and runs back.

BANG!

We turn our heads to find Tobias screeching in pain. I don't think. I run out of the truck and go over to comfort him.

"Where's the bullet?" I ask. I don't have to look long. It's in his leg.

"Uriah! Peter!" I yell needing their help.

The serum will take a while to overwhelm their bodies, so we need to get him to the truck as fast as possible.

Uriah and Peter try to lift him, but Tobias scrunches his face in pain.

"We need more help in lifting him," Uriah says.

"I can do it," Ray says triumphantly.

"Yeah, a Nose can lift Four off the ground," Peter says sarcastically.

"Get him to the truck! Now!" I yell.

The three of them lift him and take him back to the truck.

They lay him down on the cushioned bench inside the truck.

I push his pants up until the bullet wound is completely visible.

"Who shot you?" I ask.

"David," he says clearly still in pain.

"I need to get the bullet out," I say softly.

The wound looks worse than my shoulder injury.

Tobias clenched his fists and prepares himself for the excruciating pain.

The bullet is large enough for me to use my hand to take it out.

I pinch the sides of the bullet and pull it from the wound as fast as possible.

He screeches and grips the bench.

He tries to relax but has difficulties doing so.

"I think we should see if they can't remember anything," Christina says.

"We have to wait four hours to make sure the serum works on everyone," Caleb says.

"Caleb, come here," I say.

"Why?" he asks as he walks towards me.

I rip off his sleeve and wrap it around Tobias' leg.

It barely fits, but Caleb has the longest arms and Tobias has very large muscles.

I grab Ray's belt and wrap it underneath his wound to stop the blood from pouring out.

Now, it's time to wait.

.............

And you're gonna have to wait as well.
