Chapter Six

“Hey! Where do you think you’re going?” His menacing voice shouted behind me. That booming voice sent my  heart beating a hundred times faster.

I had been running for a few minutes now. My breaths started getting heavier and heavier as each of my steps start to slow down. Bystanders were starting to give me a weird look as if I was the crazy one.

“You can’t get away with this Eleanor!” I heard his voice get louder with each step I took.

I knew he was catching up to me and I could only continue running for a short distance more. My legs started getting numb as I rounded a corner onto another unfamiliar street in New York. I didn’t know what to do; I was panicking. I grabbed my phone from my pocket and dialed Adam’s number. Droplets of sweat ran down the side of my face as I continued to push my body further to escape, hoping for an answer.

I heard the heavy footsteps just a few steps behind me. I knew I wasn’t going to get away from him this time. Tears started to brim on the edge of my eyes. I knew this was going to be the end of life. He wasn’t going to beat me until I’m numb, this time he’ll beat me to death.

“Hello?” Adam answered on the other side of the phone.

I opened my mouth to reply for help, but I felt an arm grab my wrist and yanked me backwards. He pulled so hard that it made me lose my balance and I almost toppled over. I screamed in pain.

“Darling, you didn't think I would find you huh?” He said disgustingly. “Well, I’m here and your life is about to get worse.” He spat.

“Stop!” I yelled trying to free myself. “Stop. Help me Adam!” I screamed, hoping he could hear me. “Adam, don’t hang up. Help me!”

My eyes shot open. I moved myself into a sitting position. My heart was beating really fast and I felt hot. It felt like I had just ran a mile. I looked around at my surroundings and all I see is my hotel room just the way I had left it last night. I closed my eyes. It was only just a dream. It was only just a bad nightmare.

I laid back down on the comfy mattress and tried to calm my heavy breathing. There was nothing to worry about right now, just the fact that I’ll be meeting Adam soon made me calm down a little. I looked over at the window and it was still very dark outside. I decided to go back to sleep for awhile.

I heard my phone ring on the bedside table next to me. I rolled over to the other side of the bed to try and reach for the phone.

“Hello?” I answered, still half asleep with my eyes closed.

“Morning sleepyhead.” Adam said in a happy tone. “I think it’s about time you should wake up.” I looked over at the clock on the table. It was already ten o’ clock! I didn’t realize it was that late.

After hearing him say that, I was wide wake. I sat up and leaned against the headboard of the bed. “I am awake.” I stated.

“You weren’t a few seconds ago.” He replied, chuckling. I rolled my eyes. “Anyways, I’m in New York now. Want to meet up in an hour?”

“Sure.” I replied without any hesitation.

“A little eager, aren’t you?” Adam said in an amused tone.

“No I’m not!” I replied. My cheeks were getting warm with embarrassment.

I heard Adam laughing on the other end of the line. “What part of New York are you in?”

“Uhm, I’m in Buffalo right now. I’m planning on staying in NYC.”

“Alright. I’ll call you later.”
