Chapter Nine

Recap:

I closed my eyes and a droplet of tear fell onto Adam’s shirt. I wiped the forming tears. “My mom committed suicide years later when she couldn’t take it. My mom was my only best friend. People made fun of me at school. I cried myself to sleep many nights. I wanted to do something, but I stayed quiet. That’s why I wanted to move to New York to never see that bastard ever again.” I ended.

We stayed there silent. Would he think of me in a different way? Would he view me negatively? Would he still want to be friends?

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had to go through all that.” Adam whispered softly in my ear.

“The notes that we had found were from my dad.” I added after a minute. “He was the one that threatened to hurt you if he saw us together. He has been following me for the past three days. He knew I was trying to get away from him and he’s trying to stop me.”

“I won’t let him hurt you. I won’t let him lay a finger on you.” Adam said, protectively.

*********

“I know something that will cheer you up.” Adam said. “It always makes me feel better when I’m down.” He added, holding my shoulders and looking me in the eyes. “We’ll go there tonight, okay?”

I had no idea what it is, but I’m in for it. I’m in for anything to get my mind off of all this. Anything to get me away from my crazy life right now sounded excellent. In fact, I’m kinda excited for it; Adam’s surprises are the best.

I spent the rest of the day on the couch watching TV shows just because I was bored. Adam had walked into the hallway to make a few phone calls and he came back and spent the day with me on the couch watching for countless hours. The sun was just about to set over the horizon when Adam suddenly turned off the TV.

“Hey,” My head snapped over toward him, “why did you do that for? It was getting good!”

“Hay is for horses. Are you a horse because that’s quite a strange thing to say.” He tried to keep a straight face, but failed. Instead he gave me an amused smirk.

I rolled my eyes and scoffed. “You think you’re so funny, huh?”

I quickly lunged over and reached to his side for the remote control. His muscular arms wrapped around my waist before I had the chance to grab the remote from him.  I squeaked in surprise when I felt the contact. It sent shivers down my body, yet warmed my insides. I tried to wiggle my way out of his grip. After many failed attempts, I finally gave up and somehow Adam ended up pinning me down on the couch.

“You think you can get past me?” He asked with a devious smirk. “It’s not going to be that easy.”
