Rise of the Overlord

Chapter Eleven

Darkness. All Kai could see was darkness surrounding him. He spun in circles, pure emptiness and inky black darkness suffocated him. He started to panic, his breathing quickened into a frenzy of pants.

"Kai...help me..."

He spun around, his eyes wide. "Nya? Where are you?"

"Kai...he's too strong..."

"Jay?" He sprinted in the direction of Jay's soft, aching, echoing voice.

"Kai...I can't break free..." Cole whispered, distressed.

"Cole!" Kai skidded and followed the Earth Ninja's voice.

"Kai...free us..."

He looked around frantically, Zane's voice echoed through the blackened room.

"K-Kai...help me..." Kai's eyes widened as a faint green light formed in front of him, forming into a faint image of an injured Lloyd. His face was bloody and bruised, his GI was ripped, torn and burned, and he was limping. He was holding onto his left side, which appeared to be covered in blood. Then three figures, one blue, one white, and one orange, joined Lloyd. Jay, Cole and Zane formed around the green ninja, but they looked different than the last time Kai saw them; half of their faces were a dark gray and their eyes burned a bright purple, but the opposite half looked frightened but normal.

"H-Help us...h-help us...h-help us..." they chanted, limping towards him.

Kai backpedaled frantically, trembling at the sight of his deformed family. A hand grabbed onto his shoulder, spinning him around.

"Kai...save us..." Nya stood before him, half of her face was corrupted, like Jay, Cole and Zane's. Tears were streaming down her face as the rest of the team circled around him.

"H-help us...h-help us...h-help us..."

"I'm trying!" Kai cried, trembling as their chants echoed in his ears. "I'm doing everything I can!"

Suddenly the four ninja and samurai disappeared, like wisps of smoke, as a strong wind blew through. A deep, echoing laughter filled the air as pure violet eyes burned through the darkness.

"You are a fool, Fire Ninja," the Overlord mocked, his ivory teeth contrasted heavily against the blackened world. "You are powerless, you are alone. Turn yourself in to me and accept your fate."

A female whisper filled Kai's mind, "You are not alone, Master Kai. We are here to help you."

Three figures formed beside the young ninja, Wisp, Shard and Rocky, in the elemental forms of Jay, Cole and Zane. They glared at the Overlord as their elemental powers fluctuated.

"No! How are you alive?!" The Overlord snarled. "It's been thousands of years!"

"We will always be around," Wisp said, sneering. "As long as you are here, we'll be here to fight you."

"No!"

The four elemental masters looked at one another before charging at the Overlord, a flash of light erupted around them.

Kai jolted awake, covered in sweat as his heart pounded against his chest. He could still hear his brothers' and sister's voices echoing in his mind. "Help us...help us...help us..." Tears formed in his eyes, streaming down his cheeks as he curled up, hugging his knees to his chest. Then he felt a hand placed softly on his shoulder, Kai looked up and saw Jay, Cole and Zane looking at him with sympathy. Wait...Jay, Cole and Zane? Kai looked closer and noticed that their eyes were a different color; this Jay's was a whitish blue, seemingly filled with lightning, Cole's was orange and red, like pure lava, and Zane's was a soft blue, like snow during the night.

"Do not be alarmed, we are still Wisp, Shard and Rocky," Jay, er Wisp, said.

"We took these forms to make you more comfortable, and to help during your training," Shard said.

Kai nodded blankly, then realized one of the elemental masters was missing.

"I am here, Master Kai. Do you remember when we became one?" a female voice echoed in his head, like a second conscious.

Kai's eyes widened as he remembered how he and Flame had fused before he passed out from the immense power.

"How long have I been out?" He asked.

"A few hours," Wisp said. "Your body had to adjust to Flame's presence, which is why you passed out."

Kai nodded numbly, still focused on his nightmare. Flame sensed his discomfort.

"Master Kai, that nightmare you had wasn't just a normal nightmare," she said. "You had a vision, a look at the present and the future."

"What's Flame telling you?" Shard asked.

"She said that I had a vision," Kai said.

" A vision of what?"

"Well, I was in a darkened room then I heard everyone crying out 'Help me', 'He's too strong', 'I can't break free', and 'Save us.' Then I saw Lloyd, bleeding and limping, walking towards me, then Jay, Cole and Zane appeared. Half of their faces were corrupted and the other half was normal but scared. They kept walking towards me, then I saw Nya the same way. They kept saying 'Help us', but then the Overlord appeared, saying that I was a fool and that I should just turn myself in. But then you guys appeared and we charged at him, then I woke up."

"This is very troubling," Shard said, rubbing his chin in contemplation. "But it also means that we have hope."

"What are we going to do?" Rocky asked.

"I say we head to the Temple of Light," Wisp said. "If the Overlord finds out that we are here, he could attack and severely damage the Balance to the point of no return."

"I say we head to the Fire Temple," Shard said. "It's the perfect place for Master Kai to train and improve his elemental powers."

"Master Kai, what do you think?" Flame asked.

Kai thought about it, what would be the safer option? What should they do?
