Why TVD and TO has destroyed me

5-Episode titles

Every episode this season has had a quote from season one as a title. I thought I could just go through and see where they came from.
I have done from episode 1-3 in chapter 1 so I'll carry on, starting with ep 4:

4-An Eternity of Misery
Said by - Damon (1x1)
This was said in the pilot episode where Stefan is pleading with Damon to stop whatever he was doing in Mystic Falls and Damon refuses saying that he promised Stefan an eternity of misery, which we later in the season find out was because Stefan forced him to turn. This was probably chosen to parallel the way in which the siren sisters became cannibals. It was a nice and subtle throwback to that season 1 storyline.

5-Coming Home Was a Mistake
Said by - Stefan (1x5)
Stefan tells Elena that he is leaving because of all that has happened since he has come back, all the bad things because he came home. All he wants to do is escape from all this death around him and to protect Elena. This was chosen because in this episode Tyler Lockwood returns to Mystic Falls, but in a coffin. This event is devastating to many characters: Matt has lost his best friend in the whole world, Caroline has lost one of her greatest loves and Stefan can now see that Damon has crossed the line, to the point of no return.

6-Detoured On Some Random Backwoods Path to Hell
Said by - Caroline (1x17)
This quote was said by Caroline when she was on the phone to Matt while caught in a storm. This shows how far the characters have come now that they are actually dealing with their own paths to hell. Each and everyone petrified of what is to come.

7-The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You
Said by - Stefan (1x20)
He doesn't know if he can control himself and his dark vampire side. All he know that he could hurt Elena and he wants to do all he can to stop himself from doing that. Now in season 8 he finds himself in a similar situation as he has surrendered his soul and emotions to Cade making Caroline, the woman he loves, a target.

8-We Have History Together
Said by - Elena (1x1)
Elena says this line in the graveyard where Stefan and Elena first speak to each other. In the season 8 episode we are back in that history class, which they both used to attend, to find out about some of Mystic Falls past, in relation to the 100 witch sacrifice.

9-The Simple Intimacy of the Near Touch
Said by - Carol Lockwood (1x19)
This is said in first episode to feature the Miss Mystic Falls competition. Now we are back there and the whole episode is filled the the brink with memories from the first one, in particular it focuses on bringing Damons emotions back, using them.

10-Nostalgia's a Bitch
Said by - Damon (1x19)
Sybil has definitely stayed true to those words. She gives Damon back all of his memories and emotions at once, but instead of it bringing him back to normal, it leaves him in a catatonic state. All through this episodes we see flashbacks and quite a few old and dead characters pop up, giving us all nostalgia.

11-You Made a Choice to Be Good
Said by - Elena (1x20)
Back in season one Elena tells Stefan even though he did all those terrible things he chose to stop, he chose to be good. Which brings us back to season 8 where Caroline is trying to get that good Stefan back, the one she wants to marry.

12-What Are You?
Said by - Elena (1x6)
This is said by Elena when she finds out her new boyfriend is not human but a vampire. All these years later Bonnie Bennet has given Stefan the cure to avenge Enzo. So now we need to ask again 'What are you?' As Stefan transitions from being a vampire to a fragile human again.

13-The Lies Will Catch Up with You
Said by - Damon (1x5)
This line was said by Damon to Stefan and in season 8 of TVD those lies have. Now because he is human, all of Stefan's compulsion has worn off and now human Stefan has to deal with all of the consequences of all of his wrongdoings.

14-It's Been a Hell of a Ride
Said by - Damon (1x20)
Damon said this to Elena talking about his life as a vampire.  As the whole series has progressed we have come to the same conclusion. Personally I believe it is, I love this show so much but at the same time I hate it . It's a love hate relationship.

15-We're Planning a June Wedding
Said by - Caroline (1x1)
It has arrived. Caroline talked in the pilot about how she and the new boy in town were planning a June wedding. After all that m has happened they get that wedding, not in June, but close enough.

16-I Was Feeling Epic
Said by - Lexi (1x8)
Lexi said this to Stefan because she reassured Elena that the relationship with could work. Since the episode hasn't aired yet I don't know how this links to it, but I hope we see Lexi again as she was a poorly utilised character who really deserved better.
