It was another cold, frustrating day here in London, England. Looking out my window and sighing, I knew the gym would be freezing, like all gyms were in the winter, and we would have to live with it.

Quickly I got out of bed and threw on my black pair of spandex and grey sweatpants. My top was a Nike shirt and a Nike sports bra that is the coolest thing ever. Then I threw on my hoodie and put my hair up into a high pony tail and put slides on.

Grabbing my knee pads and shoes, I walked out of my dormitory door onwards to the gym.

Or what I thought was the gym.

As soon as I ran inside and shivered, shaking off the chilling snow, I sighed loudly and looked up. Big mistake.

I was in a conference room.

"Can we help you?" The man at the center of the table asked me with a little frustration. Shyly, I backed back to the door and opened it slightly.

"Oh, um sorry. No its all good. Bye!" I said getting some odd stares as I ran back into the terrible weather.

This time I was more careful with my surroundings and actually ended up in the gym.

That's when all my nerves set in and I became nervous as heck. Today was my first day for practice as I recieved a scholarship for this school, The Univeristy of London, for the sport I loved the most. Volleyball.

I entered the gym to see the net already set up, and some girls stretching their cold muscles out. So swiftly I put my knee pads and shoes on and joined them.

"Hey, I'm Kayla." I said walking up to the group of girls.

"Sup, I'm Diana and that's Morgan and Shelly." Diana said pointing the two girls smiling at me.

"Mind if I join ya?" I asked, while they nodded their heads and said sure.

Right before I saw the coach who recruited me, I saw a rather shy girl in the gym doors just entering. They way she carried herself told me she was probably more nervous than myself and scared to death.

"Who's she?" I questioned my new aquantinces. They just shrugged and looked away.

"None of our interest. She looks akward anyway." Morgan said rolling her eyes. I could tell Morgan was going to be the girly girl of this team.

The shy girl wasn't akward looking at all. Her blonde hair was beautiful and she was very pretty. Morgan was most likely jealous of her looks as I saw her roll her eyes and look away in disgust.

Real mature Morgan.

Finally, the practice began after the coach introduced herself as Coach Mary. She was really nice and serious about volleyball for our college. She wants to win, and win big.

Good, we share the same want for this team.

Now it's time to see how good we are.

The practice went by so fast as most of the time we spent getting to know each other and building the friendships. Friendships are important in a team sport like this. They keep you going. Not like real life ones...

The girls are all pretty awesome and cool. The best player out there is most likely Shelly or that 'not akward' girl. She was the only person I couldn't converse with because time ran out at the end of the social hour time.

Finally the practice ended and we were free to go until Monday as today was Saturday.

I said my good byes and went to grab my slides and put those on really quick. Then I saw the 'not akward' girl leaving and I grabbed my things and ran after her.

"Hey, wait up." I said running after her causing her to spin around.

"Um.. hi, what is it?" She asked quietly.

"I'm Kayla, the outside hitter? You have an awesome pass. Wish I could pass as well as you." I told her with full sincerity. She blushed and said,

"No big deal, I wish I was taller so I could hit. Your amazing." She said her eyes getting wide when she said amazing.

"Thanks. What's your name? I never caught it?" I asked her.

"Oh sorry, I'm Brookyln. Your Kayla right?" She asked while I nodded.

"Pretty name. Well thanks for stopping." I smiled at her. "Try and stay warm." I played around with her causing her to smile for the first time.

"I will. You too. And before you go, mind telling me what kind of accent you have? It's not any British!" She exclaimed making me smile.

"I'm Irish." I replied with pride for my Country.

"That explains it." She said giggling. "I knew it was a bit odd."

"Well I am an odd person." I old her.

"No your not! Hey uh.. if you don't have any thing going on tonight, do you wanna grab some Starbucks with me maybe? You seem pretty cool and the only one truly willing to talk with me." At that she lowered her head.

Eagerly I accepted. This girl was going to my friend no matter what. And the other girls on my team were going to like it.

"Of course I'll go! What time? Lets say five and well grab something to eat before coffee?" I proposed.

Brooklyn nodded and smiled saying that would be great. We exchanged numbers than made our way to our dorms again.

I was so ready to have a true friend again, I hoped this one wouldn't fail like the rest. But something told me, Brooklyn wasn't like the others.
