Kayla

As soon as I saw Sam in his basketball uniform, I knew this was the sport he loved. The way he carried himself during warm ups and when he shot all reflected his passion for his game. Basktetball was life for him.

As the clock hit seven minutes, the refs called the captains over for rules and greeting, and Samuel and some other tall guy walked over and shook hands with the taller opposing team.

They quickly ended that little talk and went back out to shoot with the team. Samuel knocked down five threes in a row. Someone knocked his sixth one from the rim.

Playfully Sam took the freshman who had kicked Sam's ball from the basket, and gave him a knuckle head thing boys do. The freshman laughed and pushed Sam off.

I was glad Sam was not a mean jerk like most junior boys were here at this college. I really liked that about him.

Finally, the game started. Brooklyn and Will sat higher up with me together laughing about random things. If she decides to date him I would be okay with that.

Before the game started, jump ball, Samuel looked frantically into the crowd. I looked to where he was looking only to see his eyes wander still. Then his eyes green eyes rested on my hazel ones. He smiled and blew me a quick kiss. I blushed and I knew Brooklyn saw it, but didn't want to bring any attention to me.

Did Sam like me? Is that why he did that? I knew we were great friends and all, but I'm sure I couldn't be his type. I mean, he is the captain of the basketball team and starter. How could someone like me, just a volleyball player, be on his liking level. The answer was simple. I couldn't.

Finally the game started and the jump ball went into Samuel's hands. He quickly set up a play and as quick as lightning while looking at a guard, he passed it inside and the big man powered up and scored. 2 points us. 0 them.

The game lasted about two hours, and at half time, Brooklyn and Will left. She told me they were going to dinner, but I didn't all the way believe that.

After the game, which we ended up winning by ten points, the guys headed to the locker room, but Sam came out minutes later.

"So what did ya think?" He asked as I approached him smiling.

"You guys are amazing!" I said finally by him. "Great game."

"Thanks but apparently not well done to grumpy coach over there." He said pointing to a short bald man who looked as if he was pouting. I stifled a laugh which only ended up coming out as a snort. I covered my mouth in shock.

"Oops." I said laughing freely. Samuel burst out laughing and eventually had to grab my shoulder for support which send chills through me. I shook it off knowing that I shouldn't get those feelings.

"Your so cute when you snort Kayla." Samuel said throwing his warm up over his uniform and walking out with me.

"Thanks I try." I said bumping into him earning a playful bump from him as well.

"Got any plans for tonight?" Sam said as we exited the door towards the dorms.

"No.. Why?" I said smiling up to him.

"Party at Mark's. Its going to rock, feel up to partying tonight?" he asked with hope I would say yes.

From the way it sounded, I knew there would be drinks at this party and some other things. I had been to these before, but never ever participated in those things.

"Um. Sure?" I agreed making Sam smile.

"You actually thought I would take you to one of this colleges parties? Kayla, that's some rough crap there. No way are you going." Samuel said as we were at the entrance to my dormitory.

"You don't think I can defend myself?" I asked with sass.

"No I just don't want anyone to touch you or crap like that. You are needed for the volleyball team. And I could neverlive with myselfbif I knew someone hurt you. Your too precious to me.." He said whispering the last part making me blush.

"Like I would do stuff like that. I was known as the pure child in school you know. Dont worry Sam, I won't participate in stuff like that." Satisifed at my response he replied with something that surprised me.

"I knew you were the right girl." Right as he said that he blushed and turned away.

"Wait what?" I questioned.

"It's nothing." He barley whispered.

"No please tell me." I said touching his arm lightly which made him look at me. He sat down in the trunk of a nearby oak tree and motioned for me to sit. He told me his story.

When he was coming out of high school, originally he was a big party person, but when sports became big and he knew he couldn't disappoint the ones he loved, he stopped. He had been through so much peer pressure and rude comments, he lost count. And here he found me, the one who didn't make fun of him for not going to the party and actually turning down all the disturbing things that went down at college parties.

"So your saying I'm.." I started but Samuel cut me off by taking my hand.

"You may not think your good for me Kayla. But your everything to me right now." He said as his green eyes sparkled and his hair tossed in the wind as mine did.

"So uh... does that mean you like-'' He cut me off with a short sweet kiss.

"You could say that." He said smiling inches from my face noticing my smile as well.

I laughed and then he told me to get dressed for dinner. I told him I was dressed and he needed to tell that I himself. He chuckled then ran back to his dorm to get ready for dinner.
