"Oh. My. Gosh. I think I'm in love." Lyla muttered as she watched the new waiter wipe down a table not too far from us. He then carefully arranged all the napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers, and the little advertisement stand on the table. Lyla and Sam watched in awe as he worked. I, on the other hand, was only half watching him. It's not like he wasn't really good looking, it's just that with everything going on in my life right now I just wasn't really interested in checking out guys. Although I had to admit, watching my friends fawn over him was pretty interesting.
After finishing up that table, the new waiter did a little hair flip, took out his notepad, and walked over to our table. I think Sam stopped breathing.
"Hey ladies and gents my name's Trevor. I'll be your waiter today." He paused and looked at each of us in the eye. Then he smiled and continued,"So what can I get for you today?" His voice was unsurprisingly smooth and perfect. Just like the rest of him I guess. He had soft brown eyes, black hair, a slight tan, and a super white smile.
Suddenly Robert started laughing loudly. We all turned to him and saw him shaking his head. "Hey Trevor, I know you're new here, but at least give us a menu first before you ask what we want to eat. It's not like we come here every other week. Actually, you know what? Never mind. We'll just have two.. Seven.. Ten of those specialty pancakes thingies alright. Two flavors each. And um. Add some extra goodness in them alright." He gave Trevor a joking smile.
Our waiter's cheeks turned slightly pink before turning back to normal. "Maybe you actually do want a menu because our pancake specialty ended 10 minutes ago." He smirked at Robert and passed out the menus to us. "I'll be back in a few to get your order." Then he walked off to clean another table.
"Darn it Rebecca!" I sighed and looked at a very unhappy Robert. "I told you to hurry up and get ready! Maybe next time I should just wake you up two hours earlier just to make sure you have enough time." Although he seemed like he was joking, he was really pushing my buttons. Pissed off, I stood up and grabbed my handbag.
"I'll be right back," I mumbled. As I walked away I heard my friends scold Robert for being so freaking mean to me. I mean, if you're just going to end up blaming everything on me, I might as well not even be with them. I hated, I mean hated being blamed for things that I didn't even do. I seriously can't even take a joke when it happens. I mean, I was the last person to get ready, but was it really all my fault though? Am I just overreacting and over thinking this? I mean, it was just a joke.
I leaned against the wall outside of the diner. I was still pretty mad at Robert. "Hey you alright?" A perfectly smooth voice said. I turned to my right and saw Trevor standing there, looking at me with concern. It was weird because I literally just met him and my friend wasn't very nice to him.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I replied. I gave a small smile. There was an uncomfortable silence when he didn't say anything and instead just looked at me. Talk about awkward. "Well um, I'm going to go back inside now. See you in a bit, Trevor." I walked past him and opened the door to the diner. As I was walking in he grabbed my elbow and I stopped walking.
"Hey, I didn't catch your name." He smiled sweetly. My gosh, he was even more good-looking when he smiled. My heart rate quickened a bit and my elbow felt tingly where he touched me.
"Rebecca." I said, and with that, I continued walking into the diner and back to the table with my friends.
"Honey! I'm so sorry that Robert said that. He was just kidding wasn't he?" Lyla glared at Robert. Robert just grunted in response and looked at me. He looked half-sorry. Honestly, I hated it when they pitied me. I wasn't some dog an owner left on the street. Although, knowing who I am, I might as well have been.
