"Rebecca??! Rebecca!!! Oh my gosh what are you doing??!!" A pair of hands quickly pulled me back onto the sidewalk just as a big van swerved hard to the left, just barely missing me. I took a couple of shallow breaths and decided to just lie down on the sidewalk, face down. It had just rained this morning, and the sidewalk was soaking wet. The little rocks on the concrete pressed into my skin as I planked. It didn't bother me though. I kept my head down, not even bothering to turn and look at who "saved" me.
"Rebecca? What the hell were you thinking??! Come on, get up. Let's take you home." I suddenly tensed up at the mention of home. Instead of getting up like the person told me to, I pressed my body harder against the sidewalk. I didn't wince when the rocks started to cut my skin.
"Rebecca you're crazy! Come on!" I felt a pair of hands grab my waist and pull me up. I didn't even bothering struggling; this person was super strong and definitely worked out. I coughed loudly as my back collided with the person's hard chest. He turned me around and looked me in the eyes. My rescuer had bright blue eyes, short blonde hair, and was like 6 ft tall. Shit. I knew this person. No wonder he knew my name. I felt like face-palming myself when I remembered that touching the blood on my face was probably a bad idea.
I quickly looked around him to see if there was anyone else with him. Nope, just that guy I knew. "Hey Rebecca? Are you okay!?! What the hell was that?! What happened to your face?!" He gently touched my cheek. I quickly pushed his hand away.
"I'm fine Jacob! Just go back to your friends." I glared at him and pushed him gently as I walked past him. He was too nice to me. He "saved" me. I didn't deserve this.
"But you are my friend!" He called after me. I ignored him and continued walking. I wasn't sure where I was going, but one thing's for sure, I wasn't going home.
[The Following Day]
I slowly walked into the halls of Lynnsdale High. As usual, people were looking at me and judging me with their eyes. Then they would quickly turn around and gossip about me to their friends. They'd probably ask What's wrong with her face? Where's her friends today? Why does she look like shit?
I blocked out my thoughts of all the things they could be saying about me as I walked up to my locker. Quickly I unlocked it and found three beautiful handwritten cards and some flowers in there. I had forgotten that they knew my locker combo. If I was really pissed off that day I would have crumpled up the cards... But they looked like a lot of work was put into it, so I didn't have the heart to do it. I didn't even have to ask how they knew. Jacob must have told them everything.
I walked into my first period class when one of my friends, Lyla, gave me a huge hug. "Oh my gosh! I heard what happened! Are you alright?! Are you okay?" I gave her a small smile and nodded. Sometimes I forgot that they actually cared. Or maybe they were just pretending. Every period up until lunch my friends greeted me with big hugs and tried to cheer me up. It half-worked.
By lunch I wasn't even hungry so I walked directly to the cafeteria table and sat down. Minutes later the rest of my group came. Everyone else in the cafeteria stared at us as they walked in and took their seats. They took their daily gaping and jealous glares as they watched. Why were they watching? Because this was the popular table. And yes, I was considered popular. Although I laugh hysterically whenever someone even mentions it. It's not possible.
I ate silently while they talked as usual. Occasionally they would give me worried glances, but would quickly look away when I caught them. It was almost the end of lunch when I heard my name. "So Rebecca..." Simon began as he walked over to my seat and pulled me up so I could give him a decent hug. He leaned down and whispered in my ear, "Are you alright?" I pulled back a little so that he could see my face. I nodded ever so slightly. Suddenly Simon gave me a big smile and then reached over and pulled the donut out of my hair. My beautiful messy bun was demolished as my straight black hair cascaded down a couple inches past my shoulder. He leaned back down and whispered, "I like it better down." I rolled my eyes at him.
The bell rang as he smirked at me. I quickly grabbed my backpack and forcefully pulled my donut out of his hand. "Don't take my things." I threatened. Although, it was a weak threat, seeing as he was still smiling at me as I walked away. Slowly a smile crept on my face as I thought of how silly he was. Somehow he always made me crack a smile. I both loved and hated him for that.
Sorry this chapter is kind of short// I just thought of this a couple days ago and was super excited to type it all out. So, what do you think?
