"So Rebecca, are you staying or not?" I could tell that Robert had become impatient.
"Well I don't have a ride, so I might as well go with you guys." I reasoned.
"I can take you home." Jacob quickly offered.
I glanced at Jacob curiously before restating my answer. "Okay, I'll stay then." I looked at Jacob again to see if he was okay with it, although he should be because he was the one who offered to drive me. He nodded and a smile formed on his face. I don't know why he was happy though. I was terrible company.
We all said our goodbyes as they left., and Jacob went to the front door to see them out. I watched them silently until they all exited before working on my homework again. About 5 minutes in, I felt someone enter the kitchen again. In fact, this 'someone' took the seat next to me.
"How's history?" He asked, glancing at my almost-done assignment.
"Good." I curtly replied before turning back to work on my homework. My progress was now much slower because I couldn't help but look at Jacob out of the corner of my eye every time he would sit up and then lean back down to write something. Talk about terrible posture.
After I was done with history I went back to the living room to gather the rest of my homework. Upon re-entering the kitchen, I noticed that Jacob's slouching figure was not present in the seat next to mine. I told myself not to care, and sat down to continue my work.
Halfway through my first math problem, Jacob walked back in with a wireless speaker and his phone in hand. He set the speaker on the counter in front of us and tapped a few things on his phone. Music that I've never heard before drifted through the room.
"What is this?" I demanded, gesturing to the speaker in front of us.
"I thought we could use a break."
I rolled my eyes. "And why would we need this on a break?"
"Well," Jacob set his phone down on the counter and ran his hand through his hair. "I was thinking that because the only time we danced last Friday was interrupted..."
My eyes widened in horror as I realized what he was implying. I immediately stood up and backed away. "No, it's alright I think we did plenty of dancing..." My voice trailed off as I watched Jacob step forward until he was right in front of me. I was frozen, looking at him with worried eyes. I really did not want to do this.
Jacob's face morphed into one of hurt and sadness. "Okay. If you don't want to that's fine." He turned around and walked back to the kitchen counter, picking up his phone to stop the music. Jacob then reached over to grab the speaker when I felt my feet move. I didn't control them, I guess my natural instinct propelled me forward.
"Wait." Jacob turned around and we ended up standing face to face. My heart was racing with nervousness. This wouldn't mean anything, but he knew that right? I was worried that he would think that I liked him. Which was absurd. "One more dance couldn't hurt, right?" A faint smile appeared on my lips as I saw Jacob's eyes light up.
"I promise you'll enjoy it." He said as he selected another song. I sighed and nodded, preparing myself for the disaster to come.
A new song began playing, and I was pleasantly surprised when I recognized the song.
"Disney, really?" I questioned, raising my eyebrows in accusation.
"What? It's a classic." He defended.
I sighed as we both walked closer to one another, ready to dance to one song. I swear if he was going to try to get two songs then I was going home.
