Vanessa P.O.V

"Vanessa! Are you almost ready?" I heard my mom call out from downstairs.

"Yeah mom I just need to change my clothes!" I called back.

I was totally lying also, I wasn't even halfway done with my makeup, and as for my outfit, I had already changed out of three outfits. I didn't know what to wear.

A few minutes later I finished my makeup, and quickly ran into my closet. I picked the closest thing to wear, but when I pulled it out, it was a summer dress. I ran back into my room and grabbed my phone to check the weather.

"No more rain," I mumbled to myself and threw my phone back onto my bed.

I went back into my closet and chose to wear my blue ripped skinny jeans, a maroon sweater, a faded black and white flannel around my waist, a cream beanie, and black ankle-heeled boots.

I left my hair curled like it was today. I grabbed my phone from the bed and rushed downstairs.

"Well finally you're done," my mom said as she rushed into the living room to put on her shoes.

Seconds later, I heard the door knock, "Oh can you please get that," she asked and I nodded.

I walked towards the front door and opened it only to have my eyes widen.

"Mr. Mendes?" I asked when our eyes connected.

"Come in Shawn we're just waiting on my husband who should be home any minute then we could walk over to the park," my mom said as she ran back upstairs.

I opened the door further so he could come in, and he continued smiling at me. Then, I heard my mom run back downstairs to greet Mr. Mendes.

"You have a lovely home Mrs. Garcia," he told her and she smiled.

"Oh Vanessa, this our new neighbor Shawn," she said and I nodded.

"Yeah we've met," I said and she tilted her head in confusion.

"Indeed, your daughter is in one of my classes," he explained and she nodded.

"Well then I expect you to be on your best behavior then Ness," she said and I nodded with a smile.

"Actually you'll have nothing to worry about because she's one of my best students," he said and she smiled.

"Glad to hear that," she said and both him and me nodded.

Suddenly, we all heard the garage door open.

"Well I guess your father is home," my mom said and she went into the living room to grab her purse.

"Honey! Are you ready to leave?" I heard my dad call out as he walked into the living room to where my mom was.

Then, I started to hear bickering and an argument between the two of them. I looked over at Shawn who was looking at me.

"Mom! I'll go and walk Mr. Mendes over to the park and you can just meet us there!" I called out loud enough so they could hear.

"Okay! I'll see you there!" She yelled back and continued arguing with my dad.

I walked back to the front door and we both walked out. We walked down the driveway, and I could feel Mr. Mendes coming closer to me.

"Sorry about that by the way," I said as we walked along the sidewalk.

"What do you mean?" He asked and I turned to him.

"My parents, them fighting," I clarified and he nodded.

"It's okay, my parents used to do that a lot back home," he said and I nodded.

"Where's 'back home?'" I asked and he looked at me.

"Canada. I lived there most of my life until I went to college, and now I'm here," he said and I nodded.

"Interesting. I've never had a teacher tell me their whole life story before," I said with a small laugh.

"Well I've never had a student pay attention to my so-called stories," he said which caused us both to laugh.

We continued walking and talking until reached the park which was filled with all of our neighbors.

"And here it is," I said and the sun was just about to set.

The view was breathtaking, and I just admired the colors of the sunset.

"Wow, this view is so beautiful," I said quietly and continued looking up at the sky.

"It really is," I heard Mr. Mendes whisper and I looked over to see him looking at me.
