Shawn P.O.V

It was the middle of the night and I couldn't sleep. The whole night I've been thinking about Vanessa. I was just laying in bed and every time I would try to close my eyes, she would be there.

I got up out of bed and started pacing in my room. Music always cleared my head, so I grabbed my guitar in the corner of my room and sat down on the chair next to my desk.

At first, I just started strumming random notes, but then I actually came up with something. I kept playing the notes and thought of lyrics.

'You're all I think about when I'm awake
Part of every night and every day
And everything's a mess when you're away
Now I ain't know'

I started playing that over and over again until I actually made a song. Then from the corner of my eye I could see a window light from Vanessa's house go on. My window was open, so it probably woke whoever was sleeping in there.

I tried to be as quiet as I could and I could barely make out the shuffling of feet from their room. Then I saw her. The blinds to her room were open so I could see her every move.

Our houses weren't that far apart so if I called out to her, she would hear me.

"Vanessa?" I called out.

I started hearing shuffling again and then I saw her head peak out the window.

"Yes Shawn?" She called back as if she knew this was my room to begin with.

"Why are you awake?" I asked while trying to keep my voice a little bit quieter.

"I couldn't sleep," she said and I nodded, "what about you?"

"Couldn't sleep," I said and she nodded.

"Well I heard you playing," she said and I smiled.

"Yeah I was just playing something random," I told her and she shook her head.

"Well it was beautiful," she said with a smile which made my heart skip.

"Like you," I said and from I distance I could see her cheeks turn red.

"You're such a dork Mendes," she said while shaking her head and backing up from the window.

"Maybe but-" she cut me off by signaling for me to stop.

She rushed back to her window and looked at me, "My mom is up, and she can't hear us talking I have to go."

"Okay I'll see you tomorrow at school then," I said and she nodded.

"Night Shawn," she said while closing her blinds.

"Sweet dreams beautiful," I whispered to myself because I knew she wouldn't be able to hear me.

I got up from the chair and put my guitar back in its place. Then, I figured now would be the best time to go to sleep.

I laid down and looked up towards the ceiling. I didn't know why but I wanted some sort of answer to appear from my ceiling, but I didn't know what it would be. And frankly, I don't even know the question.

I turned around and shut off my bedside lamp then turned back up to the ceiling. I stared into the dark hoping some sort of sign would appear, but it never did.

Maybe that's because I already have my sign. The girl who I now look forward to seeing everyday. Vanessa.
