16 years later...

"Shawn are you almost ready?" I called out while helping Mariana get ready for school.

"Mom, do I have to go to school today?" Mariana asked and I nodded.

"Of course sweetie, and besides, I thought you loved school?" I asked and she nodded.

"I do, but we have a new teacher this year, and I'm afraid they won't like me," she said and I smiled.

"I'm sure they'll love you Mariana," I looked up at Shawn who was walking downstairs with Mason.

"And if they don't?" She said and raised her brow at us.

"You won't have to worry about that sweetie," I assured her and she smiled.

"Thank you mama," she said and I smiled.

"Of course mija," I said and kissed her on the head.

"Okay well I should get going," Mariana said while grabbing her car keys off the counter.

"Okay have a good day sweetie," Shawn and I both said together.

Within a matter of minutes, she left.

"Well, I say we make a good team," Shawn said while kissing the top of my head.

"We do don't we?" I said and he nodded.

"Mommy?" I heard Mason call out as he walked back downstairs holding his shoes.

"Yes baby," I said and he threw his shoes on the ground.

"Can you help me please?" He asked and I nodded.

"Of course," I said and walked over as he sat down on the stairs so I could help him put on his shoes.

"So are you excited for your first day of school?" Shawn asked while helping me put on Mason's other shoe.

"Dad...it's only second grade," he pouted and we both started laughing.

"I know bud, but still the transition from first grade to second grade isn't that easy to do," Shawn said and Mason nodded.

"I know, but I can handle it.  I'm tough just like you," he told Shawn and flexed his muscles.

"Ah indeed you are bubba," I said while helping him up.

"Okay, are you ready to go?" Shawn said and Mason nodded.

"Yeah, I'm ready," he said.

"Okay well I'll see you later babe," Shawn said while kissing my lips gently.

"Okay I love you," I called out as they started walking out of the house.

"And I love you," he said and they both walked out to the garage.

"So how was your first day of junior year Mariana?" Shawn asked as we began eating our dinner.

She didn't respond.

"Hello? Earth to Mariana," I said and waved my hand in front of her face.

"Oh sorry, yes mama?" she said while snapping back to reality.

"How was your day?" Shawn asked and from what I could see, she was blushing.

"What? Did something happen?" I asked and she smiled.

"Nothing mama, promise.  It's just that turns out you were right," she said and I smiled.

"Well of course, I'm always right. But what am I right about?" I asked and she laughed.

"About the new teacher, he does like me," she said and I looked towards Shawn.

"A he?" Shawn asked and she nodded.

"Yeah and he's super hot," she said and started giggling.

Shawn and I laughed and shook our heads.

"What? What's so funny?" Mariana asked and we bit shook our heads.

"Nothing.  Just glad you had a good day," I said and she smiled.

"Yeah, and if I have to be honest, I think I'm falling for that new teacher too," she said and my eyes widened.

Like mother like daughter.
