Chapter 3
Emma's POV
"My mom is going to have Mrs. Hemmings tutor me. It's not fair, I don't need a tutor!" Callie said to me on this dreadful Monday morning.
"I disagree." One of our friends, Bella, said in a joking tone.
"An 88 in that class is good, but apparently she doesn't think so." Said Callie.
We are sitting in lunch, discussing today's topics. I had already eaten my sandwich, and today I packed myself a yogurt. Bella sat on my left, Gia on my right and Callie on her right.
"It is if she were in honors classes like us" Bella muttered quietly to Riley, thinking that I couldn't hear them.
"It's not bad at all. She probably just wants you to be like Tyler, naturally smart." I joked about her younger brother.
"Not everyone can in honors and AP classes. Besides, it's a bit late to be entering honors class next year when we are seniors." Callie spoke.
"If my Algebra 2 grade continues the way it is now, I'll most likely be joining you in those tutoring sessions." I laughed as if it was a joke, but it truly wasn't. Callie and I have the same teacher, but different class periods.
And we both agree that he doesn't teach. Instead, he gives us homework on things we haven't learned about yet and the next day test us.
The bell rings, telling us to get out of the cafeteria and to the last class of the day. Callie and I walk to the classroom, where we are to finish watching the "Dead Poets Society".
"Is there rehearsal for the play tonight?" Callie asked me after class ended.
"Yeah, from 5:30 to 8:00." I answered.
"And we're taking time out of that to paint the set, yes?" She was only reminding herself, so I shook my head 'yes'.
"Meh, I have to go, my mom decided to start tutoring ASAP. Mrs. Hemmings will be at my house around 3:30. See ya!" She waved and walked off. I walked the other direction until I came across Bella and some other friends that had just said good bye to Callie.
"She's probably going to get more coffee. At lunch, she was talking about how she needs a tutor. She should have gotten one years ago. Honestly, I don't understand how she is still in our grade." Bella said. I had joined the circle, but after hearing that I couldn't stay.
They've been doing this for quite some time, talking about Callie and I behind our backs. Sometimes, for instance just now, I hear what they have to say. What they don't realize, is that if they talk about their friends behind their back now, they're going to do it for the rest of their life.
Usually I walk home with my neighbor Marie, but since she is with Bella and the others, I walked home without her. Besides, she has track practice... I think.
