Chapter 11
Emma's POV
"Have you seen the new kid?" A group of girls spoke as they walked by me. The last bell had rung a few minutes ago, and I was waiting for Callie to show up. I'm leaning against my locker, the locker door wide open next to me.
"So the new kids name is Ashton, and he's not bad looking." Callie said as she leaned against the locker next to mine.
"Rumor is he was held back a grade. He's almost 19 they said." I told her the rumors I had heard about him. Ashton walks down the hallway as we speak.
"Rumors will be rumors, never-the-less he is good looking." I said after he walked by. It was his first day, and from the looks of it he hadn't really made friends.
"You know who else is decent looking?" I said.
"Decent? Is decent good or bad." Callie chuckled.
"Hey guess what! I finished my vocabulary story!" Our friend Riley came over to us and interrupted our conversation.
"Already? He only assigned it today." Callie asked, clearly as shocked as I am.
"Yea, well I have a lot of time on my hands." She laughs and we fake laugh with her.
"What is it about?" I asked.
"Read for yourself." She said and then handed me her school Ipad, already unlocked and the story is on display.
I read through it. The use of vocabulary was great, however the actual story wasn't. She lacks ability in being able to convey her thoughts into a clear story. Ideas are randomly thrown into the plot, and it confuses me.
"This is great!" I said enthusiastically. "The little kid is hilarious."
In the time it took me to read, Callie had left and Bella, Kathy, Marie, and Annie had circled around my locker.
"Where'd Callie go?" Kathy asked.
"Who knows, probably to get extra help from one of her teachers." Annie poked fun at Callie not being in honors.
"Doesn't she have a tutor? She should get one that actually works." Bella added.
"She's been doing better in her school work." I defended.
"Remember the time when we went to the diner for lunch?" Annie asked.
No, I don't remember that.
"Oh yeah! And we saw the kid being tutored. She looked so unhappy." Riley laughed.
"That's probably how Callie looks when she's being tutored." Laughed Bella.
I feel uncomfortable.
"Yeah, that was funny. I got to go, I have a dentist appointment. Bye guys!" I waved.
"Bye" they chorused.
"Callie!" I shouted as I saw her waiting outside, waiting to be picked up by her mother.
"Hey, what's up?" She said.
"They've done it again." I frowned.
"Talking about me?" She asked.
"Yeah. Oh, do you remember going to the diner and seeing a kid look unhappy about being tutored?" I asked her.
"Yeah, the kids looked like she was in pain, I felt bad." Her frown was still on her face.
"When was that?" I asked.
"Last week." She answered. "They said that they texted you and that you replied that you couldn't make it." She explained.
"What a lie, they never asked me."
