Chapter 13

Callie POV

"You! Button!" Someone shouted down the hallway to their friend.

"Button!" The guy yelled again. My locker is unfortunately in the senior hallway, because for some reason there was a section of empty lockers that they gave to our grade. So, being in the senior hallway and myself a junior, I couldn't turn and yell at the person to shut up.

"Button!" He yelled in my ear, causing me to jump and turn around.

"What! And who the hell is Button?" I turned to find Luke being the one to yell in my ear and Calum next to him, looking amused.

"You. You're Button, it's your last name." He said in a duh tone.

"No, my last name is Dutton... With a D!" I emphasized the D.

"Whatever, Button. Whe-" Luke began.

"D!" I growled.

"Oh!" Luke exaggerated and playfully slapped Calum's chest. "I get it. She wants the D!" He chuckled and my face turn red with embarrassment and anger.

"Do I have to slap you again?" I muttered, looking sternly into his captivating blue eyes.

"Do you know where your friend, Emma, is?" Calum spoke up.

"She left, she had something to do at home." I told him, but to be honest I have no clue where she is.

"Oh," his face slightly dropped, "well can you give this to her for me?" He asked, handing me a sheet of paper.

"Uh, yeah sure." I said, taking the piece of paper before they walked away. I, being the curious person I am, opened the piece of paper.

And sure enough there were ten digits along with the words, "text me".

A smile appeared on my face in excitement for Emma. This could be the start of many things, and I was more than happy to be a part of it. I walk around the corner of the hallway. On the left are my group of "friends" and on the right is Emma talking to Kristina.

"Emma!" I smiled brightly.

"Hey, what's with the smile? Kinda creepy." She chuckled.

My smile never faded as I handed her that paper. Her face lit up, and she started to repeatedly smack my arm out of excitement.

"Well don't just stand there, get your phone!" I laughed.

We are in Emma's room, me sitting on her bed and Emma pacing around. They started off texting each other last week, but it was Calum that called her and asked her out tonight.

Being that it's Wednesday, and there's school tomorrow, she's meeting up with him at a restaurant in the mall. However, as a precaution, she asked me to go with her to the mall to make sure she isn't stood up. The plan is for them to meet up at 5, it takes 15 minutes to get there, and it's currently 4:48.

I hop into my used BMW and Emma hops into the passenger seat. She turns on the radio, and the first thing we hear is Taylor Swift's anthem, 22.

"Keep it or change?" She asks me.

"Uh, see what else is on." I suggest. She tunes through the channels until we hear XO by Beyoncé. Emma remains quite, and I'm guessing it's the nerves because she always has something to say.

"So..." I started. "How about this weather?" I asked and she laughed at my random question.

"What about it? It's almost November, it's going to start snowing soon." She said as I turner on the blinker indicating me turning into the mall.

"I love and I hate snow." I thought out loud. I slowly drove around, looking for a parking spot. When I spotted one, I notice how Emma became quiet again.

"What restaurant is it again?" I asked her once we were out of the car.

"We are meeting up at the glass circle water fountain thingy." She described, but I knew what she was talking about. We walked in the side entrance, closest to the fountain, and quickly saw Calum.

"Well looks like you're all set here, have fun and stay safe!" I chuckled. I was about to turn and walk away when she grabbed my arm.

"Wait," she said, and I just looked at her, then to Calum, then to her, then to Calum, them to Calum's friend.

Wait.

No.

"Surprise?" Emma spoke as the realization hit me like a ton of bricks.

"No kidding." I muttered as we walked up to them.
