Chapter 4
Callie POV
"When you have 3y+6x=24, what is the first thing you do?" She asked.
"Subtract 6x and add it to the other side." I answered.
"And then..."
"Divide by 3" I muttered. This was just a review, stuff I already knew.
Hey that rhymed!
I was scribbling on my paper when Mrs. Hemmings phone rang.
"Hello?... No, why?... He did what? I'll be over shortly." Whoever was on the other end must have hung up on her, because she looked at her phone to see if the caller was still there.
"I'm sorry to do this, but I have to leave. Is your mother home?" She carried on.
"Um... Yeah, I can go get her." I said. I excused myself from the table to go get my mother, who was already walking in.
"Callie, go finish your homework." She said, and I nodded. I was in the kitchen grabbing a granola bar and my school bag, but I overheard the conversation.
"In the near future, I am going to have to switch from going to the students homes to having them come into my home. It's just that with my new work schedule, I may not be able to make it to everyone's homes and then back to my 8:00 class." Mrs. Hemmings explained.
"That's not a problem for all for us, she's quite flexible with her schedule." My mother assured.
"There's also a possibility, considering I have many kids whom I tutor, I may combine some of them together. Basically a small group, no more than five or six." Said Mrs. Hemmings as I started to walk out towards my room.
"Even better, I'm sure Callie is ok with that." I wondered into my room to finish my homework. All I had to do was just a short story using this weeks vocabulary words.
Going to her house for tutoring? Small groups? No thanks, I like the comfort of my home. However, it's not my choice. Seeing as how my mother reminds me that I'm not 18 yet and she thinks I can't make my own decisions.
I'll be 17 in a few months, and one more year I'll make all the decisions I want. Although, I probably won't do much seeing as how I can't risk doing anything terrible that may prevent me from getting into college. Not to mention I probably wouldn't have the guts.
I'm not a goody two-shoes, but I'm not a badass. I'm kind of in the middle, but closer to the goody two-shoes.
You know what I mean, right?
I was in my room, debating wether or not I should shower before or after rehearsals. After deciding that 1) I wouldn't really be doing anything during rehearsal, and 2) would be getting home late, I decided I may as well shower now.
In other words, I don't feel like doing my homework. If I procrastinate, I am older and therefore wiser.
I walk into the bathroom and the first thing I see is my reflection in the mirror. I see my dark brown hair that reaches just past my shoulders, my dark brown eyes and pale completion.
Turning away from the mirror, I make sure the door is locked before turning on the water.
