Reagan's POV

"Yeah, yeah. Just come on already, you're so slow." I complain to Ashton as I am very close to literally dragging him out of his house. It was Calum's brilliant idea to have a Christmas party and exchange gifts. Regardless to say, those who don't have a date aren't too thrilled.

I hate having to give gifts to people. Isn't friendship enough? What more do people need?

"Has he texted you back?" Ashton asks me.

"James? No, I'm sure he's a little ticked off at me." He's referring to the guy at my school I am interested in.

We all sit around in Luke's basement. It was a secret Santa theme, where Callie got me a handkerchief in a color that I don't already own and I got Calum a box of guitar pics.

"Why does it say Vince?" I asked Callie when I opened her gift to me. On the side of the handkerchief, in small black lettering, it says 'Vince'.

"Oh, my neighbor used to be in a gang of motorcycle people. He was one of 30 people. When they rode their motorcycles they wore handkerchiefs. I kind of took it from him, though I don't think he'll mind."

"So is he a large, balding guy with a lot of tats?" I asked her.

"No, he's obsessed with working out and staying fit, but he loves to go to this coffee shop. Maybe you've heard of it, The Brew?"

"Oh! I have. It's the place near the beach, right?" I said.

"Yes!" She exclaimed, "and it's like a forest theme inside, with all the small trees. My ex used to work there, well actually he still does but who cares?"

"Remember that one time we went in?" Emma began, and she laughed through her whole story. "We were sitting down, and he came in with some of his friends. You didn't believe me when I told you he was there and you nearly fell off your chair!"

"I did fall off the chair."

It was one of those you had to be there moments.

I thanked her for the handkerchief. When we were done opening gifts, there was one surprise left. Calum, Michael, and Luke had an announcement.

"Over the short time we have known you, Ashton, we've heard good things about your drumming skills." Said Michael.

"We'd like you to join our band." Luke finished. It took us by a slight surprise, but of course Ashton agreed.

"What do you call yourselves?" Ashton asked after a small round of applause.

"How about, 'Luke and the Penguins'?" Luke asked, which earned him a small slap to his arm from Calum.

"How about, four..." Calum trailed, trying to think of something.

"I like summer." Michael blurted, and I laughed at him.

"Four summers? Because that sounds awesome." I snickered.

"Four seconds of summer?" Emma suggested.

"Five." I said flatly, and they all turned to look at me.

"Why five? There are four of us." Ashton asked.

I shrugged, "five sounds better."

"Five seconds of summer it is, then."

****

Time had gone by fast. Callie, Emma and I would talk about common interests while the boys rehearsed. We began recording their videos and posting them to YouTube, where they quickly gained followers. There had been a lot of attention to them, to the point where they got a life changing phone call.
