∘✿∘✿∘✿∘✿∘✿∘

It was almost four in the morning when Max, my little baby boy, woke me up. I groaned and blinked a few times before slipping out of the bed sheets. The room, spacious, dark, and silent, was almost empty, exept for me and my husband, Shawn.

I sat on my bed for a few seconds, contemplating him sleep. His hair was messy, and his lips slightly parted, while his body was scattered all over our bed in a rather uncomfortable position. I couldn't help but smile. He was beautiful, and all mine. How did I get so lucky?

Max's whining snapped me out of my trance, and though this was Shawn's turn to wake up and calm our baby down, I couldn't bring myself to do so, so I finally got on my feet and headed to the room next to ours. I entered with a yawn, and hurried to Max's white crib.

"Shhh, don't cry Maxie, mommy's right here", I whispered playfully as I took him out of the crib carefully.

I held him and swang him from left to right repeatidly, hoping for him to stop crying, but he clearly had other plans.

"This is not food time", I said, more to myself than to him.

But he wouldn't stop, so I started doing what I most loved to, hoping it would work: I sang the first lullaby that came to mind:

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night."

By then, Max had stopped crying. I smiled at the sight of his pure, peaceful face, and his beautiful sweet eyes, which looked just like his father's. He smiled back innocently, staring back at me with curiosity.

About two seconds later, I felt a pair of warm, strong arms wrap around my waist. My smile became wider as I bit my lip shyly. His body was now pressed against my back, and his head came to rest in my shoulder. I turned my head and kissed his soft, rosy lips.

"Why didn't you wake me up?", he asked kindly, almost concerned.

"You looked peaceful", I replied truthfully.

"Honey... I'm a heavy sleeper", he started, "I probably looked dead", he joked, and we both giggled softly. "Just... Hit me with a baseball bat if you need to, but please take some rest".

"I'll consider that", I smiled, staring into his magical eyes.

"By the way, if you don't wanna wake me up, don't sing. You know I can't rsist your angelic voice", he smirked, and I blushed. How will I ever get used to him?

We looked down to Max, who was analyzing us with his gaze.

"How you doing, buddy?", said Shawn in a high-pitched tone. "Rough night, huh?"

He kissed me on the cheek and said: "Mommy and I are gonna sing some more till you fall asleep again, okay?"

We sand the rest of the lullaby together. Our voices matched perfectly, creating a tender melody. Max let out a yawn, and shut his eyes, slowly reaching unconciousness.

Shawn and I hummed the chorus in sync, while our baby finally fell asleep. I took him back to his crib and placed him carefully under the sheets.

I turned around and approached my husband once more, as he placed his hands on my waist. I pulled him closer, and my hands found their way to his neck, tangling around his brown, soft hair.

"I love you, you know that right?", he said, staring intensely at my eyes.

I looked down, uncapable of mantaining such strong eye contact. I loved him too, and I knew our love would never grow old. It would never fade into darkness, because, if so, our sould would fade too.

He lifted up my chin and kissed me passionately, making my body go numb, and my heart rate to quicken.

"I love you too", I replied, as I allowed myself to get lost inside his eyes.
