"Kids, come back here!", I yelled at the giggling children as they chased each other. My children. "Felix, stop that! Leave your brother alone!"

None of them listened to me, and I wasn't in the mood for any lectures. It had been a long day.

"Kids, huh?", spoke a male voice. I straightened my back and adjusted my position, but the bench still felt uncomfortable.

"Don't even get me started", I said, and sighed deeply in exhaustment.

I expected the man to walk away, but to my surprise, he sat down next to me at a reasonable distance. He began scanning our surroundings, caught inside his own reverie. I would've taken a moment to appreciate the beautiful, colorful park we found ourselves in as well, but instead, I just stared at him. I couldn't shake the feeling I'd seen him before...

"I'm sorry, have we met before?", my mouth spilled.

"I don't think so", he laughed, but I could swear that smile sounded too familiar to belong to a stranger. "I'm Shawn Mendes, and you are?"

My heart dropped to the ground as soon as the name dropped from his mouth, but it didn't take it long to begin racing at an alarming rate. I opened my eyes wide in shock, completely disregarding I was being impolite and maybe a bit creepy.

"Oh my Godness", I said in disbelief. "You're joking, right?", I proceeded to ask, although I already knew the answer.

"I'm serious", he replied, chuckling awkwardly, and I realized I was acting recklessly. I cleared my throat and shifted positions, trying to calm down and make this situation less uncomfortable.

"Sorry for that", I apologized. "It's just- I used to be a huge fan of yours"

He smiled, showing his white set of teeth. "Really?"

"Yeah", I replied, and let out a big breath. "I can't believe this"

"Me neither", he said, but I noticed a hint of sadness behind his words. "It's been a while since I spoke to a fan"

"What do you mean?", I asked, forrowing my brows in concern.

"Well, I left the industry a few years ago", he said. "I had some... Personal issues I needed to sort out. But anyways, my biggest fear became true: everyone forgot about me and my music. So here I am"

He looked at me in the eyes and smiled weakly, and a heavy block of sadness sunk down my heart. Lots of memories began coming back to me, each one hitting me with intense nostalgia. I remembered the way his songs made me feel, the way the lyrics he sung used to bring me safety and warmth; I recalled the first time I attended to one of his concerts, the passion of each one of his performances... The love and dedication he had for music.

And in that moment, as I looked at him, I knew he was not the same person as he used to be back then. Not only because he had grown up a lot: he was older now and had a slight sttubble on his chin. He had changed, but not in a bad way. He was just different, but still the same Shawn I fell in love with.

Just as I was about to make up with something to say, Felix ran towards us between giggles, and hid behind me. Seconds later, John came after him, laughing maliciously.

I wasn't proud to admit I had almost forgotten about my own children, but in my defense, Shawn Freaking Mendes, my all times inspiration, was sitting inches away from me.

"Mommy, who is he?", asked Felix, and they both became silent.

"His name's Shawn", I replied with a smile.

"Hi", Shawn greeted kindly.

"Hi", the boys answered.

John came closer to me and placed his hand between the corner of his mouth and my ear. "Is he our dad?", he whispered. My heart sunk. I shook my head and tried my best to pull of a decent smile. He nodded in understanding and jumped down from the bench.

Felix was playing with Shawn, who seemed like he was good with kids. "Well, boys, why don't you go and play some more? It's getting late, and we're leaving soon", I said, and they both ran away together. Shawn and I were left alone once more.

"They seem like great kids", he said.

"They are", I replied truthfully. I loved them more than words could describe, and I was very lucky to be their mother.

"I know this will probably sound weird, but are you married?", he asked, looking like he already regretted his words.

I laughed. "It's okay. And, to answer your question, I am very far from married"

I turned around to face him. He was, in deed, the same Shawn I once admired with all my heart.

"Well, then, would you like to go out for dinner sometime?", he asked shyly.

"I'd love to", I replied with a big smile.

I didn't know what would happen next, but I was sure something great was coming.
