You grunted quietly as you felt your caretaker tug on the ends of your corset. It was such a bother to dress before an event such as a meeting of nearby kingdoms. Normally, you didn't have to wear a corset under your gowns and robes - but today, as you were decorated in glittering hairpieces and expensive jewelry, you were also choked to near death by the tugs of Marlo's strong hands.
"Marlo!" you gasped, looking back to glare at the old woman. "I cannot - breathe!"
"Forgive me, your highness," she said gently. "I don't have any say in this. Your mother gave specific instructions for how you should look during this meeting."
"It's hardly a meeting," you grumbled. "More like an overly expensive showcase so my parents can show everything they have off."
These meetings took place quite often. During the events, the First Order would converse with several of the nearby kingdoms that visited. They would discuss trading, armies, and other useful ways of helping take down the Resistance. You hardly played a part in them before this year, but as the future wife of the commander, you were suddenly crucial to the way tonight would play out.
You sighed and shook your head. She finished up tightening your corset and began to lace up your gown. As she did, you allowed yourself to straighten up. A couple of your dressers came around with a sky blue cloak. They helped tie it around your neck and adjust your well-styled hair so that it fell down your left shoulder in a wave of gentle curls. With the wrap that went around the top of your head and the crown that was placed on top, you were ready for the winter weather that brought your kingdom to a silent standstill.
Your chambermaids lead you out of the room and into the watchful eyes of your knights. They brought you safely to the front of your castle, where thick snowflakes were already starting to fall softly. You shivered underneath your cloak and watched as your mother and father walked out behind you, arm in arm.
You couldn't fathom why the place of the event was outside in the dead of winter. You couldn't picture what went through the planners' heads when they chose the venue. It was out in the gardens, where all of the plants were dead except for the vines of winter berries and dark green vegetation. Still, with the dim and flickering lights of orange against the dark blue and the fat snowflakes gliding down to the earth, it was beautiful.
You and your parents were introduced to the neighboring kingdoms first, and after a generous amount of introductions you didn't care about at all, you were forced into the center of the event. You sipped on the concoction of fizzing, sparkling drinks in your hand and watched your parents as they discussed trade with the Order and the furthest planet from your system.
You longed to speak to someone that knew you. Dozens of men and women of high status approached you to give you unneeded compliments and congratulate you on your upcoming wedding. Each time they spoke of you and your fiance, you found yourself looking around for him.
He - as well as the other members of the First Order - looked extremely out of place. They stood off to the side of the event. General Hux bore the duty of speaking to the generals of the neighboring planets', which the Knights of Ren were of high popularity as they gossiped and chatted with the young women of your kingdom.
Kylo Ren, however, was on his own. He stood silently near the thrones that belonged to your parents. You noticed how he observed the holographic screens of your ancestors. Your grandparents, their grandparents, their great-grandparents. Lines and branches of your family. You wondered if he was picturing his own hologram up there.
You wanted to approach him and speak to him, but if you were honest, the memory of your last meeting left you with a deep blush on your cheeks. You had managed to grow closer to Kylo Ren than you thought possible. He had practically opened up to you - shown you weaknesses that you didn't think he would have.
