You barely had time to comprehend what had happened. Not even a second later, Kylo was pushing you towards the entrance of the castle. A group of his stormtroopers broke off and circled around you, guarding you and pushing you inside.
You were dazed and confused. You struggled to glimpse over their shoulders as they hurriedly pushed you forward. Kylo wasn't following you. Your parents were being led inside as well.
You pushed a trooper to the side. With a gasp, you saw a glimpse of the outside. Your snowy world, the kingdom you'd grown to love. Nearly all of it was in flames. The platform that held your guests up - your beloved people - was blown to bits. You saw a sea of dead and injured. Innocent men and women.
"No!" you screamed, and you pushed your way through the troopers.
They yelled for you to halt, but you ignored them. You pushed your way outside and felt the constricting arms of Kylo Ren around you immediately. You sobbed as he dragged you back inside and pushed you against the wall, out of sight.
"You need to stay inside!" he ordered.
"Those are my people!" you cried.
"Listen to me!" he growled, and he grabbed your face in both hands. "In a matter of moments, an army is going to burst through the palace walls and they're going to kill every single one of the royal family. I promise you that I will gather what survivors I can, but you need to get to safety."
You glanced down at the snow. Covered in ash and blood, you watched as a swarm of heavily armored soldiers stormed through the rubble, killing anyone they came across. The soldiers of Domzay. Leading them, Juban.
Your heart was shattering. The floor shook, but it didn't matter. You would have fallen no matter what. Kylo held you up and leaned over you protectively.
"I should have known," Kylo Ren said. "I should have known what they were going to do, I am so sorry, Princess."
"Sir!" a trooper shouted. "We have a ship prepared for the princess now."
Kylo nodded. "Go."
You shook your head. "Not without you, Kylo. Not without you!"
"You don't have a choice!" he hissed. He took off his mask and tucked it under his arms. He looked at his stormtroopers. "Take her and keep her safe, no matter the cost."
"No!" you cried, feeling the armored hands on your shoulders.
He reached for you. His gloved hands cupped your face, and almost painfully, he pressed his lips to yours. For the first time, you didn't like it. This wasn't a kiss a bride should receive moments after her wedding. It felt like a goodbye.
The stormtroopers pulled you away. Your tears fell as you saw your new husband ignite his lightsaber and, with his Knights at his sides, he went towards the fight.
With the Commander out of sight, you knew of what you had to do. Your parents were already halfway to their ship. Your bodyguards moved quickly alongside you. Your trip was smooth, your pathway clear.
They took you down empty halls and dusty corridors - rooms that hadn't been touched in years. Staircases and lifts that brought you closer to the first floor, where you would escape out the side door and flee to the woods.
"There they are!" you heard two soldiers of Domzay. You turned and soon felt arms pushing you away. "Halt! The princess is ours!"
"Move, your highness," the trooper to your left urged.
They pushed you behind them and held out their blasters. You watched with widened eyes. The stormtroopers made no move to attack.
"Chief Juban will have his way."
