author's note -
thank you for reading this story. it's a shorter one, but I do intend to make this a trilogy. while I read this, I listened to Across the Stars (Padmé and Anakin's theme). I figured it fits well with the love story here. And I'm trash for Padmé and Anakin.
thanks again. ♡

The entire first floor of your castle had been transformed into a medical bay. Every stormtrooper, solider, pilot, and person kept as slave to Juban was treated medically. It had been only a few hours since the battle, and you hadn't seen Kylo since you limped him inside.
Whatever magic the Force worked on your heart also healed your wounds. It wasn't something you could explain, but you knew that Kylo Ren had significantly weakened himself to bring your heart back to its original, steady beat. He had taken away from himself, and now he was fighting for his life.
You knew he would pull through. He wasn't the easy to give up. In the meantime, you would let him heal and give the medical staff time and room to do what they could for him.
As you waited, you visited your people. It was a bittersweet victory. They were back home, with their princess on the throne and their enemy dead, but lives were lost, and families were destroyed.
Still, the room was filled with warm chatter and the sounds of mothers and sons and husbands and wives being reunited with their loved ones. You smiled happily, taking time to visit each of the brave soldiers who had no one to console them.
"Princess, you should be resting," a young man, younger than you, said as you refilled a bowl with cold water for him. He had lost one of his arms in the fight, and the other was in a sling. Very recently had he woken up from surgery. "You shouldn't be taking care of me."
"Nonsense," you said. "Relax, my friend. Your body is tired. Let it calm down, and allow me to care for you."
You stood by his bed and pushed his shoulder down gently. Hushing him, you tilted his head back and helped him drink from the bowl.
He broke his lips away and gasped for air. His eyes fluttered shut tiredly. "Thank you, your highness."
"Shhh..." You brushed your fingers through his curls. "Sleep now, brave soldier. You have fought for us well."
He drifted off peacefully, his chest rising and falling in an even pace. You reached to the foot of the bed and grabbed hold of a blanket. Carefully, you draped it over him.
"Princess," a nurse said, tapping your shoulder. "Commander Ren is awake, and he is asking for you."
You followed her immediately. She took you to a private wing, where they had placed Kylo in the middle of a large bed. He was on his back, his fevered skin slick with sweat and his chest rising and falling with steady breaths.
"Thank you," you whispered to her, and she and the other nurses left.
Kylo peeled open his eyes. They found you immediately, and he struggled to sit up. You rushed to him and eased him back down, shaking your head and whispering his name. He relaxed as you sat down on the side of the bed.
