While you were, for a few moments, numb with terror, you were soon full of anger. You wanted revenge, but Kylo was pulling you away from the castle. You could hear sounds of war going on outside. How many people were left?

"Where are we going?" you asked Kylo as he rushed you outside.

"We're getting on the Finalizer and then we are leaving," he said. "You'll be staying on my base."

"My planet-" you began.

"Will be our grave if we don't get out soon," he snapped.

"My people are fighting!" you said. "We cannot just leave them here!"

"You are the priority," he said. "They're fighting to protect you. That's what I am doing right now-"

The ground rocked. You fell away from Kylo, staggering to the side. Your head was spinning, your temples aching. As if getting hit in the head just minutes earlier wasn't enough, the ground was shaking.

Kylo hooked his arm around your waist and took fast, heavy steps. You clutched him, afraid of what was happening. He murmured to you, but his voice was far away.

You were slowly falling limp in his hold. For the second time that day, everything cut to black.

//

Your eyes fluttered open to a set of bright lights. The illumination made you wince. There was a throbbing all around your head. You opened your mouth and sighed, feeling the dry, sticky, painful soreness in your throat.

Worse than the pain, the memories came. They hit you like lightning. You remembered the blood of your mother and father as they sat upon their thrones, eyes frozen in death and throats slit. The trooper that sacrificed himself. Your youngest chambermaid. Marlo.

Marlo.

You heard a loud beeping noise. You winced again. With shaking hands, your pushed your wild hair away from your face to look at your surroundings. You seemed to be in some sort of hospital.

"You're awake," a voice said.

You turned your head to see a tall, strict looking woman with short brown hair and a permanent frown. She was standing off to the side of the room, tapping on the end of a syringe.

"Where am I?" you croaked.

"The medical wing," she said. "I assume you're aware that you're on the First Order's base?"

You blinked. "I do now."

She hummed and picked up a tray. You swallowed as she walked over to you. She sat the tray down and brushed your hair back.

"You've got a severe gash and bruise on the side of your head," she said. "I'm afraid I'll have to stitch it."

You watched her. "How long have I been out?"

"A day and a half," she said. "I'm afraid you have caused the entire base to be nervous."

You winced at the sharp pain of the syringe needle going into your skin. "I'm sorry?"

"Our Commander has been nothing but worried since he brought you back," she informed you. "He won't stop pacing. Our entire staff is nervous."

"Oh."

As the side of your head began to numb, the needle and thread were pulled through your skin. You could only feel an uncomfortable tugging. It made you sick.

"We're preparing for war," she said.

"We are?" you asked.

"The man you married doesn't know forgiveness, only revenge," she said. She seemed disappointed. "You're more trouble than you're worth, Princess."

She tugged angrily on the last bit of thread. You hissed in pain and glared at her smugness. She cut the remaining thread and then took the tray back.

"How is she?"

You turned your head to the right. Through the clear pane, you saw Kylo Ren, consulting with another nurse. She pointed to you through the glass and Kylo turned his head. He was making his way to the door quickly.

Your nurse scowled and huffed. You tore your eyes away to stare at her. She glared at you with such a distaste that it left you wondering if she had put something lethal in your syringe to kill you.

The door slid open with a hiss. Kylo tore his helmet off and placed it quickly at the foot of your bed. His eyes were full of worry as he looked you over.

"Are you all right?" he asked.

"Fine," you whispered, still glaring at the nurse. She turned and left.

Kylo looked back. "Did she say something to you?"

"Seems that she's not happy with me," you said. "Did I do something?"

"No," he said, "no, of course you didn't."

You frowned and looked away. Carefully, you touched your hand to your temple. You bit your lip against the pain.

"Don't touch it," he said, grabbing your wrist and pulling it away. "How do you feel?"

"Tired," you admitted. "And sore, and worried, and scared."

"Are you worried about your wound?" he asked. "I asked the nurse, Princess, and you only have a slight concussion. You'll be okay."

"No, I'm worried about you," you said. "Is it true that we are at war, Commander?"

"Yes," he whispered. "But no harm will come to me, Princess. I know what I am doing."

"But are you willing to risk it all for a planet that has already died?" you asked. "To defeat a man that has already won?"

"I am willing to do anything if it means to keep you safe," he murmured. "You must realize that by now."

"I do, and that is what scares me," you admitted. "I need you, Kylo, more than ever. I do not want to even risk the chance of losing you forever!"

He leaned over and kissed your forehead. You shut your eyes. As his lips lifted, you tilted your head upwards. A moment later, his lips touched yours in a soft, careful, and loving caress. He stroked your messy hair back and pressed his hand against the back of your neck.

He pulled back, nose skimming your cheek. "You must address your people. There are a couple hundred of them, most injured, and they are losing hope. They need to hear from you, Princess."

"I haven't any hope," you said in defeat. "My parents, my friends, Marlo - they are gone. My home is taken. Our home, Kylo - our future!"

"Is here," he assured you, his fingertips touching your cheeks. "Your home is here, with me. And your future is here, with me. You are here with me."

He smiled. It was soft, and, as you admired it, you realized that it was completely out of character for Kylo. He looked like a different man.

"Can you look into my eyes and not see hope in them?" he asked gently.

You nodded.

"Then you are not lost," he said. "You are not void of hope. I will not lose you, my wife."

You smiled through the tears now cascading down your face. You threw your arms around Kylo and buried your face in his shoulder. He wrapped his arms around you tightly and squeezed his eyes shut.

You felt him gently lift you off of the bed. He turned around, kissing the side of your head over and over again. You wanted to merge yourself with him, to become one so you wouldn't have to worry about him.

He sat back down on the bed, you still in his arms. You never felt safer.

"I love you," you whispered.

"I love you more."
