In no less than twenty minutes, you were finally out of your gown. Your chambermaids tidied up your already spotless room and folded all of your evening wear. As they retrieved a nightgown for you, Marlo plucked pins out of your hair.

You sighed in relief as the last one was pulled out and your hair was finally able to untwist itself from its place on your shoulder and unfurl down your back. Marlo gently combed her fingers through it.

"Thank you, Marlo," you said.

"Of course," she said.

"Your nightgown is on your bed, your highness," one of your younger chambermaids said. "Would you like us to help you dress?"

"No, thank you," you said, rising out of your seat in front of the mirror. "It is late, ladies. Why don't you all go to bed?"

Marlo smiled. "Thank you, Princess."

"Of course," you replied, smiling back.

You grabbed your folded gown off of your bed and went behind your divider. You slid it over your body. It reached your knees in a silky, golden waterfall. The fabric was cool against your skin.

"Goodnight, Princess," they all chimed.

"Night," you called back.

They all gathered your evening clothes and filed out of your door. You waved and they chirped happily as they left. Your guards shut the door tightly.

Finally alone, you grabbed a brush off of your vanity and began to gently pull it through your stiff curls. They fell against your back again, slightly frizzy, but mostly soft.

You heard rustling from down below. You smiled slightly, aware of the sudden presence ten feet below your window. You opened the glass doors quietly and stepped onto your balcony.

You couldn't see him, but you knew he was there.

"Commander," you whispered.

"How exactly do you expect me to get up there?" he asked, and you were happy to hear his unmodified voice. He wasn't wearing his mask.

"Climb, silly," you said. "There's a wall of tightly knit vines along the side of the castle. They're strong enough to hold anyone, and your arms are more than long enough to reach over and grab hold of the balcony."

"You sound experienced," he noted.

You laughed softly. "Well, I have my history of sneaking out to spend alone time in the garden. When I was younger, my mother forced me to train for my position as queen."

"How daunting," he said dryly.

You smiled. "Just climb, Commander."

He did. You stepped back as you saw his silhouette emerge from the side of the castle. He stretched a hand out and stepped onto the marble floor of the balcony. You watched him swing his leg over and land perfectly onto the floor in front of you.

As he straightened up, you smiled. He smirked. You grabbed his hand and pulled him into your room. You took his helmet from him and placed it at the foot of your bed.

"How was the meeting?" you asked.

He hesitated. "Maybe your father will tell you."

You furrowed your eyebrows. "Did it not go well?"

He shrugged. "We haven't reached a compromise just yet. Juban seems to have... unfathomable requests."

"What does that mean?"
