You now sat at the end of your new bed. Kylo was standing in front of the viewport, pulling his gloves off. You watched him as you pulled a comb through your hair, smiling.

"I cannot help but notice that you are happy again," he said. He turned his head. "I am not sorry to say that I am pleased to not see your frown."

You sighed. "I'm just... hopeful."

"That is good," he said.

He crossed the room and sat down next to you. He pulled your hands in his lap and stroked your forearms. You watched as he traced patterns on your soft skin and gazed down, almost in embarrassment, it seemed.

"I want you to know how proud I am of you," he murmured, "and how... happy I am to be your husband. I want nothing more than to rule by your side for all of eternity."

You smiled. "I love you."

"And I love you," he said. He reached up and cradled the back of your head. "I love you more than I can say. More than I thought I was able to. I'm not a creature made to love."

"You're human," you reminded him, "and humans love."

He pulled his hands back. A frown twisted his smile and you felt a twinge of fear. Had you said something wrong?

"I am hardly an average human," he said dryly. "I am, as most consider me to be, a monster."

You shook your head. "You are no monster, Kylo Ren."

He glanced at you. "You know not of my past, my wife, and I don't know if you are ready to hear of it."

You moved closer to him. You eyebrows furrowed in concern as you reached for him, placing two hands on his bare chest. You smiled softly.

"Share your past with me," you whispered. "When I agreed to marry you, I agreed to hold your sadness and your regrets. I promised to love you no matter what, and I do not ever plan on going back on that promise."

"I don't want you to regret your vows," he whispered.

You tilted your head. "Why would you think I would?"

He took a deep breath. You kept your eyes on him as he turned his head away and stared at the floor. He hunched his back and swallowed hard.

"I was not born into a world like this," he said. "Where I came from was made of Light. I'm not of the Dark side, like many people think. I was born after the fall of the Empire. The galaxy was now balanced, freedom restored - or so they said.

"I believed it at one time. I believed that Darth Vader was evil, that he was once a good man turned bad. I ate up every single thing my mother and father told me about him, and after a while, I began to notice that they were afraid. I was Force sensitive, like my mother, uncle, and grandfather. And they saw something in me that made me different. My father wasn't around much, and it made me angry. It made me hate."

You narrowed your eyes. "What... what do you mean? Why would they be afraid of a Force sensitive son?"

"My name was Ben Solo," he breathed.

"Solo," you repeated, the name familiar on your tongue. "Solo."

"Because my grandfather was Darth Vader," he whispered. His face twisted into a scowl as he continued. "My mother was Leia Organa, the princess of Alderaan. My father, General Han Solo, the famous smuggler and war hero. My uncle was Luke Skywalker."

Your eyes widened and your breath caught in your throat. Your husband was in the same bloodline as the three greatest war heroes of the Resistance. You had heard stories about them from your grandfather as a child. He risked one glance at you and pressed his lips into a thin line.
