Chapter Four-Something Your Hiding

The Alpha sat behind his desk filling out papers as I stepped into the room.

"You wanted to see me, Alpha," I murmured softly.

"Yes, I wanted to remind you that your 18th birthday is in two days," He said, not looking up from his paper work.

My heart stuttered. I wasn't sure where this conversation was headed but it couldn't be anywhere good.

I swallowed. Hard.

"Usually girls are excited about their 18th birthdays yet you haven't even mentioned it at all. Is something wrong," He asked.

I froze. I stopped breathing.

Did he know? Had he figured out that I was leaving tomorrow?

"No," I whispered, trying not to sound guilty.

Only then, did he look up, his eyes meeting mine. I immediately looked down, showing submission.

"There's something you're hiding. What is it," He demanded, a growl rumbling in his throat.

I whimpered and took a few steps back but kept my eyes trained on the floor.

"Tell me," The Alpha snapped.

"I-I just wanted to l-leave to find m-my m-mate," I stuttered, my heart pounding against my chest so hard it hurt.

"You wanted to leave," He repeated slowly, anger dripping in his voice.

"T-to find my m-mate," I added wearily.

"And how were you going to leave without asking me," He snarled and I flinched.

"I was going to ask you tomorrow." I was close to tears.

Whenever I was around the Alpha I felt nothing but fear. Raw pour poured from him, intimidating anyone lower than an Alpha.

I hoped he would believe my lie. I hadn't had any intention of asking to leave, fearful he would say no and keep me here, away from my mate.

"Get out," He barked and my body trembled as I scurried out of his office.

I went to my room and cried.

He wouldn't let me leave. He'd keep me prisoned here. I have to run away. I'll take Abby with me tomorrow night. The night before my birthday.

I shook as I laid there in my bed. I quivered, fear still dominating me. Tears slipped from my eyes, leaving small trails in their wake.

I wished that my parents were here. things wouldn't be so hard then.

The Aloha singled me out at age 14, a few months after my parents were killed by rogues. He taught me how to fight, saying it was a way to let my anger out but I realized a few months later that he only trained me to kill. My first kill was his brother.

The Alpha was 18 at the time I had killed his brother, James. The pack knew that James wanted to be the Alpha but his brother refused to give it to him. Afraid that James would try to steal his title, the Alpha had me kill him as he was strapped to the wall in the basement.

I refused to kill James, at first. But the Alpha threatened me. He told me that if I ver refused to do what he said, he'd kill me instead.

I cried the whole time I ended James' life and that earned me a hard slap across the face. I've been terrified of the Alpha ever since.
