Chapter Fourteen-Escape At Last With The Help Of A Rogue And Newly-Made Friend

I panted heavily as my paws hit the ground. There was a slight whine that withdrew from my muzzle each time I breathed. I was desperate to get to my sister. I didn't want the Alpha to take her and use her against me.

There was another howl and it sounded like one in pain. I winced at the sound.

I pushed forward, going my fastest, the wind soaring past me. I tried to go faster but my legs protested against the fast pace I was already going.

I frantically listened for any noise around me but I couldn't detect anything; it wasn't helping that my panting could be heard from miles away.

There was another howl, closer now and I spotted a dot in my line of sight. I ran harder, pushing my limits.

The dot slowly grew into the hug size of a wolf, a brown wolf, much like the male one who was distracting the Alpha when I gave my sister to his female partner.

I shifted behind a tree and was thankful to find an oversized shirt stuffed in a hole by my head since my clothes shredded when I shifted at the pack house. I quickly slipped it on, stepping out into the open.

The brown wolf's head snapped towards me when I moved from the tree. He pulled his lips back, barring his teeth, as he snarled.

He was warning me not to come closer.

"It's ok, I want to help you get out of here. My Alpha isn't the most kind and you don't deserve to be in his hands. I'm the one that gave my sister to you and your partner." I spoke softly so I didn't scare him.

If he felt threatened, he would attack and then I'd be dead.

I took another slow step towards him, sweat trickling down my back: both out of fear and because of all the running I just did. Droplets slid down my face, my breathing was hard as my chest rose and fell quickly with each breath.

The wolf's growl this time was quieter but it still held warning.

"Please, just let me help, we don't have much time. The Alpha will be here any second." I pleaded and with one final snarl, the wolf bowed it's head in submission.

My breath caught for a short second and something warm trickled through my body. It was a warm fuzzy feeling, like gratitude and pride. This wolf submitted and no one has ever done that for me.

"Ok, let me see." I stepped closer to him and winced when I saw his foot stuck in an iron clutch that the Alpha had made himself to catch rogues.

The clutch held spikes on the circular top so when an intruder stepped on it, the spikes would pierce their leg or foot. The Alpha covers them with leaves and has them painted to blend in with the earth's colors, whatever season it may be. There was poison laced on the spikes, causing a good amount of pain for the intruder to bare.

Blood oozed from the wolf's right hind leg. Small whimpers passed his muzzle but I heard the strength dimming a little more with each one. He was loosing consciousness.

"Stay with me, I need you to stay awake." I told him and he gave a long puff of air.

"I know, I know. This is going to hurt, try not to make as much noise if possible." I told him and with a silent count to three in my head, I pulled the iron clutch out of his hind leg.

He cried out, whipping his head back to snap at me but I had already moved out of the way.

The wolf swayed a bit at the fast movement he made and tried to steady himself.

"Slowly, lead me to your camp. You need medical assistance immediately. Poison was on that trap and in a couple hours you won't be alive if you don't get help." I told him and he growled.

He didn't want to take me to his place, he thinks this is a trap.

"Please, I'm begging you. I need my sister. I want to get away from my Alpha, he's cruel." I begged.

"Is that why you won't accept me? That's why you side with rogues?" An angered filled voice asked.

I whipped around to see the Alpha and the color drained from my face.

"I could have been the mate you wanted, I could have made you happy-" He started but I cut him off with a growl, my fists balled.

"Don't you dare speak lies to me! You made me do things that no one should ever have to do, especially when I was just a kid! You are a sadistic, self centered jerk who likes to believe he meets the qualities of an Alpha. Newsflash, no Alpha treats their pack members like shit and you do just that. I will never accept you!" I spat, rage coursing through me.

I felt a tug on the bottom of my shirt and I glanced down to see the rogue.

Why hadn't he run yet?

He tugged again, motioning me to follow him.

"Don't you dare move, Alice, or so help me god." The Alpha growled.

"What are you going to do, kill me? Hit me? Make me kill more people? I'm done with you so you'd better get over me fast!" I snarled and shifted into my wolf.

The brown wolf ran ahead of me, limping with his wounded leg and I trailed behind him. I heard the shredding of clothing and fear spiked in me as I heard the Alpha gaining on us.

I butted my head into the wolf's behind and he only went a little faster.

We weren't going to get out of this land alive if he didn't go faster.

I growled to get the wolf's attention and he looked back at me. I motioned to him, letting him know that he needed to get on my back. He barred his teeth but a growl from the gaining Alpha and he quickly shifted as we running and leapt onto my back.

I ran, trying to keep a fast pace while holding the male wolf on my back.

I barked when we came to the end of the forest, trying to get him to tell me which way to go.

"Right." He said weakly and I veered off in that direction.

There was a howl just a few feet to my side and I glanced over to see familiar eyes.

Amber.

I'm coming with you, I'll distract the Alpha and catch up with you. Which direction are you heading? She mind linked.

East, just follow my scent. I'm following the boy's directions. Thank you so much for helping me. I spoke back, giving her a sincere look.

She nodded.

Of course, it's the least I could do. I'll be back before you know it. She replied and then slowed, trying to get to the Alpha.

After a few more seconds of running, I heard snarling and snapping jaws.

Be careful! I told her.

Always. She answered and then I crossed the territory line. I was free from the Alpha...and the rest of the pack.
