The envelope looked like it deserved to be in an art gallery. Although it was a pretty typical envelope, it seemed like it was made of gold. You carefully cut it open and pulled out the letter, which felt like diamonds being held in your hand. Avoiding any crinkling or dents in the paper, you unfold it and read it aloud, to yourself.
"Congratulations! You've been accepted into Hope's Peak Academy for your talent of Ultimate Markswoman."
You stopped. Markswoman? Really? Marksman obviously sounds better, regardless of your gender. You made a mental note to have that changed.
"The entrance ceremony will be held on April 14, and school will begin shortly after. We hope to see you and look forward to your attendance."
The note continued on about you being accepted and all, but you realized it was mostly repeating now. Even still, you read it like it was the best manga that hadn't been updated in years.
With the adrenaline rush over, you set down the note. Marksman, huh. It was true. You were incredibly talented with a gun, or any ranged weapon. It was fitting.
You check your calendar. The 14th was only three days away. It didn't seem like enough time to prepare, but it was your fault for checking your mail too late.
"Alright!" You yell aloud. "Binge shopping, commence!" Grabbing your wallet, which was about the only thing you needed, you left the house.
To put it simply, you had an intense childhood. As such, your immediate family was either dead or missing. You used to live with a friend of your sister after your family separated, but she had passed away recently, so you lived alone. You had grown used to living by yourself, despite how young you were.
After hopping off the subway, you make your way to the mall. You went from shop to shop, browsing and buying. Your only rest was for lunch, when you bought yourself a little salad and a smoothie. Then the shopping resumed.
It was late evening when you returned home. With two bags in each arm, you shut the door and slumped onto the couch. You stared at the four bags. A mess is not acceptable. Suddenly, your energy comes back and you begin organizing what you bought. Most of it was school supplies, including the fancy backpack you purchased. You look at it happily, then set it aside. Home stuff, school stuff, personal stuff, you kept sorting and organizing and sorting and...
"Huh?" You shot up, looking at the pile of supplies around you. The morning sun was seeping in through your blinds.
"Must've fallen asleep..." You rubbed your head groggily, then shook it to get yourself awake. You stood up, letting the mess fall off of you.
"Better get to it then." In about an hour, you had the mess cleaned up. A backpack full of supplies was set by your door. Breakfast was made for yourself. Then, you returned to your actual bed, planning to get some good sleep.
A couple days later, you left the subway and walked a few blocks to the academy. More like the few blocks to paradise. Your heart was going a mile a minute. You worked on shaking off your nervousness, keeping yourself from trembling.
You found yourself standing at the gate of Hope's Peak. You stared up at the tall building, taking in the sight. "Heck...I'm not ready for this." You say aloud, walking into the campus.
