How are you supposed to celebrate someone's birthday when the world is ending?
You leapt out of the helicopter, immediately pulling the parachute cord as you began firing at the Monokumas on the ground. What can I do? Ransack a bakery for a cake? Is he a cake type of guy? Landing on a rooftop, you tossed off your parachute and began dashing down the fire exit. Several agents followed you, shouting various commands to each other. What would be special for him? What would be a good present? Landing on the ground, you called out to any possible survivors, commanding the agents to check the area. You charged into the herd of Monokumas, hoisting your hacking gun. What's something that would be sentimental? Or something with a deeper meaning, maybe? You racked your brain as you attacked the robot bears, nearing the trapped family in the center of the herd. You reached them, calling for backup as you helped the daughter and her parents away from the bears.
On the helicopter ride back, you reviewed your history with your boyfriend for ideas of gifts. You replayed every day with him, wondering what would be something special for both of you.
Arriving back at the hotel, you dismissed the agents, besides one.
"Excuse me." You spoke to the anonymous agent. "I need a helicopter ride. Do you have extra time?"
The agent nodded, and you boarded a smaller helicopter.
"Go to Hope's Peak, please." You donned the headset.
"Hope's Peak? What are you doing there?" He started up the helicopter, raising his voice over the whirring of the blades.
"I just need to check around the area, nothing too important. I'll be quick about it."
Inside the dreaded academy, you glanced the room as you headed up to the recreation room, eyeing the mess created by Sakura's death. You looked around the area, searching for that specific item. Giving up, you went to Byakuya's room. You looked around the ornate furniture, hoping to find it there. You recalled the brand of the object, and the color and shape. You hoped it was still in the academy somewhere.
You pulled out his closet doors, looking inside his wardrobe. Various blazers hung on the rack, with multiple dress pants stacked on the floor. You felt through the pockets of the clothes, finding success in one of the blazers. You pulled out an ink pen, examining it to be sure it was the right one. It had to have been.
Late that night, you knocked on Byakuya's door, to which he immediately opened.
"Hey." You entered. "I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. I'm sure it's a little late, but...I got you something."
He looked at you, surprised. "There's no need for you to do that. I don't really celebrate my birthday..."
"Well, can I celebrate it for you, then?" You held out the pen. "Here."
He picked it up, examining it.
"It's the pen I used to sign our contract." You explained. "Without it, I would've never been able to spend my life with you. I suppose this is my way of saying that I have every intention to do just that."
Several moments of silence followed your speech. He looked at the pen, and at you, then back at the pen. Suddenly, he placed the utensil on his bed as he embraced you, kissing you deeply. You wrapped your arms around him, shutting your eyes.
After a bit he leaned out, his eyes locked with yours. "I love you so much. Thank you."

Happy Birthday, Byakuya Togami!
This isn't really following the events of Ch 17, it's just somewhere in the story.
