Haru smiled gently at the small, sleeping figure that squirmed in his arms. The doctor walked out of your hospital room, sighing and looking at the ground with a look of pain in his eyes. Haru, however, didn't seem to notice, as all his attention was all on his new baby girl.
"Nanase-san, I regret to inform you that your wife has passed due to blood loss...", the doctor admitted. Haru quietly thanked the doctor, unsure of what to do.
He walked back into your hospital room to find your body covered by a clean white sheet. Still holding the newborn in his arms, he peeled the sheet off your body. Your face was stiff, but there was still a hint of warmth on your skin.
Haru whimpered and weeped at the side of your bed, until it was time to take your body away...
~~5 Years Later~~
Haru picked up your daughter, (Y/D/N), from kindergarten.
Haru smiled, but (Y/D/N) didn't return it. The car ride home was quiet, just the soft music coming from the radio killed the silence.
Haru parked in the driveway of their home and helped (Y/D/N) out of her car seat.
As Haru unlocked the door, he heard your daughter sniffle. He looked down at her, she was on the verge of tears.
"What's wrong?", he asked.
"Daddy? Why don't I have a mommy? Everyone else in my class does...and they were all here today...", her voice quivered.
Haru felt his heart fall as he realized what day it was today...
Mother's Day
He wiped the tears off (Y/D/N)'s sad face and brought her inside. He sat her on the couch as he went upstairs to get a few things.
"What's that box for, daddy?", she asked, legs swinging since she couldn't reach the ground.
"It's pictures of me and mommy before you were born. I never explained to you what happened, but today I will.", Haru said, sitting down next to your daughter and opening the box.
Multiple stacks of photos, letters that were still in their envelopes, and little souvenir from each date you had.
Your daughter giggled as she looks through the photos, pointing at Haru's funny faces.
"I look like mommy!", she exclaimed happily.
"You do...", Haru agreed sadly. They continued to look through the photos until (Y/D/N) noticed something.
"Look, daddy, this letter hasn't been opened.", she held out the sealed letter.
Haru looked at the date marked in the corner of the envelope,
December 14
5 days before your daughter was born.
"(Y/D/N), why don't you set up a tea party and I'll join you when I finish making snacks, alright?"
She nodded excitedly and skipped up to her room.
Haru smiled, looking at how similar you and your daughter looked all the time. He then looked back at the envelope that has still yet to be opened, and cautiously ripped the top half and took out the paper.
He unfolded the paper and began to read.
Dear Haru, if you're reading this, then it either means I forgot to throw it out when we came back from the hospital, or I'm no longer there to do it. (If I'm still with you, then just throw this out and cuddle with me)
First of all, I want to remind you how much I love you and our new daughter, and I hope she looks like you!~Second of all, please raise our daughter with all the care in the world. Third of all, I'm so sorry for leaving you like this, I know you really dreamed of raising kids together. When I'm in labor, I will tell the doctor to chose the baby instead of me if it comes to it. I chose not to tell you because I knew you would go against it...If you're still reading this far it either means that you're just curious to what it says, or I really am gone.
If you find this letter, read this part out to (Y/D/N):
"(Y/D/N)! Come here please!", Haru called out.
(Y/D/N) ran out of her room, "Yes, daddy?", she beamed.
Haru patted the seat next to her and read the letter,
Hello, my angel. It's mommy!~ I want you to know that even if I'm not there, I'm with you in spirit, so don't let it bother you when you have no one to go with you to go shopping, or go to your school on Mother's Day. I'm sorry that I'm not with you, but if you're ever missing me, visit me...I will always be there to listen..That goes for you as well, Haru-kun~
I love you both. Take care~ -(Y/L/N) (Y/N)
"(Y/D/N), go get dressed, wear dark colors, please.", Haru got up from his spot on the couch. "Where are we going?"
"We're going to visit mommy.", Haru smiled.
~~
Arriving at the beautiful, yet eerie cemetery, Haru held your daughter's hand, leading her to your tombstone.
"Here she is. Put your flowers down, (Y/D/N)."
She carefully placed down the flowers near the stone, fixing it in place so it wouldn't fall. "Is there anything you want to say to mommy, (Y/D/N)?"
"Hi, mommy....I love you...", she said sadly.
Haru brought her into a hug as she began to cry. Haru squeezed his eyes shut to prevent him from crying. "Let's get home, it's getting dark. It's also almost time for dinner.", Haru carried her.
"What's for dinner?"
"Fried mackerel."
"Yay!!"
