I LOOKED DOWN AT MY FEET, and didn't manage to speak. I was speechless. What would I even say? Thank you? Or why?

"Look at me Lil mama," he insisted.

I looked up at him. He had a blank face on and said, "you can roll with me from now on no one will fuck with ya."

I stayed silent.

"I mean it. Consider it a favor. Now you owe me one, see how it works?" He said.

I nodded my head.

The bell rung that meant lunch was over. We all scattered to our next classes.

At the end of the day when I was at my locker someone tapped my shoulder.

"Hey Lil mama wanna go somewhere?" He asked. I thought about it.

"Sure," I said.

We both walked out of the school and started walking towards the streets. He took a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it. He exhaled the smoke and handed it to me. I took it and twirled it between my fingers.

He took it back. "You don't smoke do ya lil mama?" He asked.

"No I don't," I said truthfully.

"That's ight," he said.

We continued walking down a long street until we made it under a familiar place, the L train. We both took a seat on the ground. I awkwardly twirled my hand in the grass.

"Why do all the kids do that to you lil mama?" He asked.

"Idunno," I said plainly.

It was the truth. I didn't do anything to them, they just naturally hated me. I didn't like it one bit but I didn't have the guts to say anything.

"You don't deserve that Lil Mama. Truth," he said.

"Its life," I said.

"So besides from being deep what else you like?" He said smirking.

"I like sunsets, and driving around at night," I said.

"Dope," he said.

We continued talking and talking. I mean hours worth of stuff. I told him things Debbie didn't know, which was weird considering I just met him. He was dangerous but deep down I knew he was just a normal guy.

"And that's how I broke my toe in 6th grade," he said wiggling his shoe. I laughed. Then he started laughing. Soon enough I looked up and it was dark out.

"We should head back to my place and someone can give you a ride home," he said.

I followed him back to his house. We both walked through the door and all eyes spotted us.

"Oh Hadley you're here.. with Carl," Debbie said surprised. I bit my bottom lip.

"It's nothing," Carl said and walked into the kitchen and grabbed a beer.

"Hey uh can someone give me a ride home?" I asked.

"I can," Lip said.
