The next morning I woke up and had a smiled plastered across my face. I cleaned my room up a little bit and headed to the kitchen. There, at the table was my aunt and my brother. He gave me a harsh look which I gladly returned.
I took a seat across from him and poured some cereal.
"How was your night sweetie?" Delilah asked lighting a cigarette.
"Amazing," I said putting a small section of my hair behind my ear (gif).
Kyle huffed and leaned back in his chair. When Delilah turned around I didn't hesitate to flip him off. Once finished with my cereal I emptied my bowl and kissed Delilah on the cheek. I ran into my room and put on some clothes. I walked into the living room and saw Kyle on the couch putting his shoes on.
"I'm leaving, I'll be back later," I said heading towards the door.
"Oh let Kyle drive you, he can borrow the Bamby," she discussed sipping her coffee.
We eyed each other and sighed.
"Come on give your sister a ride," Delilah said almost demanding.
I huffed and ran out the door and reached the car. I rattled the car door until it popped open. I took a seat in the back.
When Kyle hopped in the car he scoffed.
"You're so dramatic Ley. You can sit in the front," he said and turned the key.
I made my way to the front seat and plopped down next to him. He blasted the rap through out his car and bobbed his head to the beat. This song was familiar. Carl listened to it. I tapped my hand on the side of my denim jeans.
"You know this?" He asked shocked.
"Yeah Carl listens to it all the time," I said laughing. He remained silent.
I spoke up. "Why are you so against Carl and I," I asked him.
"I'm not against him. I know Carl. You aren't the first one. He tells you you're special and all the stuff you want to hear until he's rid of you. I just think you're better than that," he said keeping his eyes on the road.
My smile fainted and I said," He's not like that Ky."
We both stopped talking. I still tapped along to the beat of the songs trying my best to memorize the words.
He parallel parked across the street and I jumped out of the car and ran towards the front door. I opened the front door, which is what Fiona had told me to do.
Lip, Ian and Debbie were laying across the couch flipping through the tv channels.
"H!" Debbie said and hugged me.
"Hi Hadley," the boys said still paying attention to the screen. I said hello and asked Debbie, "Where's your brother?"
She pointed upstairs and headed into the kitchen.
I ran up the stairs and walked into the boy's room. I saw Carl practically shirtless counting money.
I stared at his shirtless torso.
"Like what you see? They all do," he said and put on his shirt.
They all do?
I smiled awkwardly not knowing what to think. I shouldn't even be mad. We aren't together and might not ever be. He walked towards me and placed his lips on mine. After we both pulled back I stood there breathless.
"What do you want to do today?" He asked.
"Well I have to tutor Debbie and then I'm free," I said leaning against the wall.
"I have some things to take of that I'm really stressed about," he said clenching his fists.
"I can help if you need," I offered.
He looked at me uncertain.
"Let me do this for you Carl," I said.
"I'll think about it," he said.
I smiled lightly and ran down the stairs to Debbie.
"Ready?" I asked her.
She nodded her head and we began our session. Debbie raced through her problems with ease. She had gotten way better since the first time I tutored her.
When we were done I raced up the stairs and saw Carl putting on his backpack.
He took my hand and we ran out the door and there outside was a van. He banged four times on the door until two big men opened it. They were both bald Hispanic men with muscle tees. I slowly crept into the van and took a seat in the corner.
The man began driving. Carl sat close to the front and I heard them speaking.
"Reparto en veinte tercera calle," Carl said to the man driving. (Deal on twenty third street)
Shit. I should've paid attention in Spanish. I tried analyzing the words hoping that would work but it was useless.
The van came to a halt and my body pretty much was thrown to the other side. The Hispanic man chuckled. I eyed him with every ounce of angriness I had.
Carl opened the door and the bright sun blinded me.
"I'm ready," I said dusting the back of my pants off. Carl bit his lip and tapped his thumb on his jeans.
"Fine," he said. He opened his back pack and he handed me an AF1. My eyes expanded three times the size. I had never seen a gun before that moment. My breathing hitched and I felt faint. I didn't want to show any signs of weakness so I grabbed the gun. I gulped. I wrapped my finger around the trigger. I felt the sweat on my forehead.
Carl motioned me to place it under my shirt. I did what I was told and waited for his further instructions.
"At any time you can back out Lil mama, okay?" He said looking me in the eye.
I shook my head.
"What do I have to do?" I asked.
"A drug deal," he said sharply.
